IPL 2019: Where to watch CSK vs RCB, head-to-head, squads and more

What's more, this triumph came following a two-year ban from the tournament due to the IPL 2013 spot-fixing scandal. Meanwhile, the Bengaluru franchise will be desperate for a win against their South Indian rivals- Kohli and co have not beaten the defending champions in the IPL since 2014, when they won by five wickets in Ranchi. Statistically, matters look much worse for RCB as they are yet to register a win in Chepauk since 2008. While the defending champions will look to start on a fresh note, it will be a whole new challenge for Kohli's men, as they look for a playoff spot for the first time since 2016. Cricketer dies while playing friendly tie

He was then taken to the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB)'s medical unit. Things didn't improve there and he had to be rushed to the SSKM Hospital where he was declared brought dead," said a player who was present at the ground.Doctors at the hospital said that the actual reason behind the death would be known only after the post-mortem report is out. Earlier in January, 21-year-old Aniket Sharma of Paikpara SC collapsed on the ground and breathed his last because of a possible cardiac arrest. The CAB, on its part, will be coming up with measures to deal with such tragic incidents. "We are deeply saddened by what happened today," said joint secretary Avishek Dalmiya."On our Foundation Day this year, a CPR and a first-aid course were conducted for our match observers. "Next time onwards, we'll make sure even players, coaches, umpires and also scorers undergo these so that when such emergencies take place again at the ground, more people would be having an idea on how to deal with them."The CAB also has plans to have medical check-ups done for all its first and second division players before the season commences. The CAB medical unit too will be revamped. Dailyhunthttps://www.threadless.com/@theaws/activity

Can't compromise on integrity for an award: Writer Akshat Ghildial on Badhaai Ho credit row

After Jyoti said her name should be reinstated in the Filmfare nominations, Akshat and Shantanu issued a joint statement saying they had pulled out of the nomination as they did not want to share the credit with someone, who had 'nothing to do with Badhaai Ho.' Now, in an interview with indianexpress.com, Akshat, who is also credited with the film's screenplay and dialogues, shares his side of the story and also appeals to Jyoti to put out her script to end the confusion. Could you take us back to 2012 when you first thought of this story? The idea came pretty naturally to me because my mausi is just 10 years older than me. My mom was 18 when she was born. It was something that was always joked or talked about in the family. This idea had been somewhere in the back of my mind for quite some time. Then in 2012, I was doing a campaign for an advertising agency and I came up with a concept about a mother getting pregnant. A couple of the dialogues that you see in the film are also in the television commercial script. That was thankfully never presented to the client. It just stayed in my inbox. A little before I shifted to Mumbai, I felt this could be a film in itself. Shantanu (co-writer with Akshat) is an old friend and I stayed with him in Mumbai. I discussed the idea with him and he really liked it. He discussed the idea with Amit Sharma (director) and Amit jumped on it. I had already started working on it. Shantanu and I were already in the process of developing the story. I didn't know anyone at Junglee. So, Junglee came to know about Amit developing an idea like this. They were developing this with Jyoti, I believe. The one line idea for it was the same. That's where all the confusion starts. She had written something else. When did you get to know that something similar was being developed at Junglee Pictures? When Junglee approached Amit, we got to know about it. People at Junglee thought there's no sense for two people to make films on the same idea. So, Priti (Sahani, Junglee Pictures) wanted to compare which one she wanted to go with. It seemed that she liked the one that we developed. We were told that Jyoti had worked on that one-line idea and she had developed the story on that basis but I believe even the concept wasn't hers. Look at the film's end credits, the concept is attributed to Somen Mishra. Jyoti was given the credit for 'Story for Junglee Pictures.' She has nothing to do with Badhaai Ho. I don't think there's any similarity between the two stories. She had mentioned the plot of her story in one of the interviews, which said, 'Kids come back to the hometown as their mother gets pregnant.' If she can put out her script, we can compare notes. She also approached me on mail and said, 'You have been telling everyone that I have nothing to do with Badhaai Ho.' And I told her that's the truth. Neither Amit, Shantanu nor me have ever met her. We don't know what she has written. She was never present on the set. What happens is, when you put out a tweet like that, it somehow indirectly implicates the other two writers as not being truthful about having written the film. It's as if we built it on the material that she developed, which is not the case. That's why we decided if our integrity is being questioned, because she is asking for her name to be reinstated, let's just withdraw our nomination. You don't compromise on your integrity to win an award. If she was credited alongside both of you in the film, why not share the nomination with her? She wasn't credited along with us, She was credited separately for 'Story for Junglee Pictures'. She had put a litigation. I was a first time film writer, so I was asked, 'Do you have a problem with her name in the film, because that (putting her name) will help get the film made.' I said, 'Okay, as long as her name doesn't come with us,' because it's evident that the film that has come out it's by our story, my screenplay and dialogues so, it was decided her credit would be 'Story for Junglee Pictures'. The point is, a story is not a one line idea. And if it's about the one-liner then it seems that has come from Somen. When the film released, she was putting all positive reviews and said, 'When your favourite reviewer loves your film, it feels great.' She kind of appropriated the credit on Twitter for Daadi being one of the characters. She was taking all the congratulatory messages as if she has written the film. It's just not right. Every review had her name as well. Jyoti has mentioned about a certain Aman Gill, who used to work with Junglee Pictures and apparently told her that Amit was posted on the developments of her script. That's not right. If I developed this idea in 2012 for a TVC, then I don't need help from anyone. Amit never mentioned to us about speaking to Aman Gill. I was developing it despite Amit. I approached him, not the other way around. There's a big difference between the two. That's why I keep referring to the TVC. I even told her that if she has a problem with me saying that the film has nothing to do with her, she can put out her script. It's as simple as that. She addressed every other point that I raised on the mail except this one. When did Jyoti reach out to you? A couple of months ago. I was supposed to be a part of the panel discussion and when I learnt that she was also invited as the co-writer of Badhaai Ho, I pulled out. I wasn't going to legitimise her claim. And then she wrote to me, saying, I was badmouthing her. I told her I didn't need to. I also told her that I can show her the idea developed for the ad company. Jyoti also claims that Priti had apologised to her and told her that whatever happened shouldn't have happened. I wasn't briefed about this. This is something Jyoti is saying, but she is also saying that she is a part of Badhaai Ho. So, I have very little reason to believe whatever she is saying. Questions on Balakot airstrike part of Congress's appeasement politics: Amit Shah

he tweet was in response to an earlier quote of Pitroda to ANI that said:"Eight people (26/11 terrorists) come and do something; you don't jump on entire nation (Pakistan). Naive to assume that just because some people came here & attacked, every citizen of that nation is to be blamed. I don't believe in that way."In reaction to the Prime Minister's tweet, Pitroda said yesterday: "All I said is, can we get more facts, that's all. I don't know why this whole confusion... In democracy you are entitled to ask a question. It is good to have a debate, discussion, dialogue, discourse.... My asking a question should not create the kind of reaction it has created, even at the level of the Prime Minister. I am baffled."Shah's news conference in which he named Pitroda is an indication that the BJP wants to milk the issue more to embarass the Congress by bringing the charge of "appeasement politics" to secure the votes of minorities. The BJP chief said the Congress president should clarify if he thinks that the Pulwama attack is a "mamooli ghatna (a regular incident)" and asked how the Congress's approach or talks, not surgical strikes, had helped the country. He said the Congress always chose appeasement politics for vote banks before elections. "Parantu, kya votebank ki rajniti desh hith se upar ho sakti hai? Kya vote bank ki rajniti shaheedon ke khoon se upar ho sakti hai (Is vote bank politics more important than the interests of the country? Is vote bank politics more important than the blood of soldiers)?" the BJP chief asked. So far, no Opposition leader has called the Pulwama attack "mamooli ghatna". Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav has raised questions on how the attack could have happened and, according to an ANI tweet, said there was "sazish (a conspiracy)" behind the Pulwama attack on the CRPF personnel, 40 of whom were killed in the fidayeen car bomb attack on February 14.On the Balakot airstrike, Pitroda, in his interview to ANI had said: "Eight people (26/11 terrorists) come and do something; you don't jump on the entire nation (Pakistan). Naive to assume that just because some people came here & attacked, every citizen of that nation is to be blamed. I don't believe in that way." Pitroda had also questioned the vague claims of damage that the government made after the Balakot airstrikes. ""If you say 300 people were killed (in Balakot), we all need to know that, all Indians need to know that. Then comes the global media which says nobody was killed, (and) I look bad as an Indian citizen."BJP leaders and ministers had cited several casualty figures, from 250 to 400.Shah repeatedly said the Congress chief should apologise for Pitroda's comments to the country and to the forces. The BJP chief also said that on March 7, the Congress chief had demanded that the questions raised regarding the airstrike should be answered. "Kiske jawab chahte hain aap? Kaun sawal utha raha hai? Air force par sawal uthane ka kaam kaun kar raha hai (Whose answer do you want? Who is raising such questions? Who is questioning our air force)?" Shah asked with a frown, then added that such conduct is unbecoming of a national party chief. Dailyhunthttps://theaws.hatenablog.com/

Signals from ear and hand to check heart rhythm

All commercially available portable ECG devices require both hands, but what if symptoms happen while driving?" This is the first study to show that the ear can be used for ECG signal detection. The study included 32 consecutive healthy volunteers (cardiology students and nurses). An ECG was first performed by the standard method, which uses the index and middle finger of each hand. A second ECG was conducted using the index and middle finger of the left hand and a clip attached to the left ear. All ECGs were printed and analysed by the device and by two cardiologists who were blinded to which method had been used. No differences were detected in the ECG results obtained by the two methods. Dr De Lucia said: "We have shown how the ear can be used as an innovative anatomical site for ECG signal detection in healthy adults. We are now conducting further studies to validate this method in patients with cardiac arrhythmias." The authors said the findings pave the way for a new kind of single lead ECG wearable device which leaves one hand free, making it easier to use. In addition to detecting previously undiagnosed atrial fibrillation, the device could be used to evaluate physical performance during exercise, prevent fainting, and check the heart during symptoms including dizziness and breathlessness. Patients already diagnosed with cardiac conditions such as atrial fibrillation could also use it to monitor their condition. ... Dailyhunthttps://tapas.io/theawsblogs

IS brought to the knees, now has no territory, claims US-backed Syrian force

The campaign to take back the territory by the US and its partners has spanned five years and two US presidencies unleashed more than 100,000 bombs and killed untold numbers of fighters and civilians. But the weekend announcement, in a tweet, was anti-climactic, and on the ground sporadic gunfire continued. A day earlier, President Donald Trump declared that Islamic State militants no longer control any territory in Syria. Associated Press journalists in Baghouz on Saturday reported hearing mortars and gunfire directed toward a cliff overlooking Baghouz, where US-led coalition airstrikes were carried out a day earlier. SDF spokesman Kino Gabriel told the AP Friday that there were still IS fighters hiding in caves near Baghouz and that clearing operations were still underway. At its height, the Islamic State group ruled a third of both Syria and Iraq, holding millions of people hostage to its harsh and violent interpretation of Islamic law. The group carried out large-scale massacres and documented them with slickly produced videos circulated online. During a rampage through Iraq's Sinjar region in 2014, it captured thousands of women and girls from the Yazidi religious minority and forced them into sexual slavery. Many remain missing to this day. The group also used its caliphate as a launchpad for attacks around the globe, including the assaults in Paris in 2015 that killed more than 130 people. While it imposed an unforgiving version of Islamic law through public beheadings and crucifixions, the group also carried out the mundane duties of governance in its territories, including regulating prices at markets and building infrastructure. IS no longer controls any territory in Syria or Iraq, but continues to carry out insurgent attacks in both countries. It also maintains affiliates in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, Afghanistan and elsewhere. Dailyhunthttps://www.pricescope.com/community/members/theaws.108789/

GVK stake in Mumbai airport up to 74%

hares of the company on Friday ended with gains of almost three per cent at Rs 7.25 on the BSE. Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (GVK CSMIA) was formed by the GVK-led consortium (74 per cent) and the Airports Authority of India (26 per cent). Film on Tibet refugees settled in India to premiere at TIFF

That Toronto boasts of a sizeable Tibetan diaspora bolsters its attraction as a venue for the screening. A still from the film, The Sweet Requiem, which will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. (TIFF) The film is mainly in the Tibetan language, and set largely within the community settled in Delhi. Its fulcrum is 26-year-old Dolkar and her life as a refugee, counterpointed with flashbacks to the perilous journey she undertook as a child, along with her father, leaving her mother and sister behind, to flee Tibet and find sanctuary elsewhere. TIFF's artistic director Cameron Bailey said, 'You see the period in India and the nuances of the social milieu there and the story of leaving as well. It's quite a powerful story and I think they're doing something quite remarkable.' The film's protagonist is played by newcomer Tenzin Dolker, who had no prior acting experience but carries the movie with a subtle but potent performance. As Sarin pointed out, there is no film industry in exile. 'Finding the right character to play Dolkar was crucial. She did a little audition and we realised she had the potential,' Sonam explained about the choice. A still from the film, The Sweet Requiem, which will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. (TIFF) Obviously, the filmmakers couldn't shoot in Tibet, given how politically charged their project was, though the sense of oppression is conveyed through off-camera vignettes, from phone conversations to videos of self-immolations watched on a phone. Instead, Ladakh substituted for the rugged landscape of Tibet. Sarin said filming there was 'quite difficult', given the altitude of about 15,000 feet. But they were also fortunate: Snow was required for certain scenes and after eight years, there was sufficient snowfall to meet their requirement. Another challenge is that of China flexing its muscles in the film world, as they experienced in the past. In 2010, as they had a film at the Palm Springs Film Festival, the Chinese yanked two productions in retaliation. That makes the selection at TIFF particularly meaningful, as Sonam said, 'So, the question for festivals would be: Is it worth showing one exile Tibetan film that comes along once every few years if that might mean upsetting the Chinese authorities and losing access to Chinese films?' For now though, this moving story will be told at TIFF. And the filmmakers are hopeful of taking it to a larger audience, including one in India. Sonam said, 'We would love our film to be widely shown. After more than 60 years, most people have no idea what their (the exiled community's) lives are about.' Indian women champs

In the 34th minute though, Sabitra equalised for the hosts as she rose high above her marker and headed the ball into the back of the Indian net. The break saw both sides locked at a goal apiece. India's pressure paid off in the 63rd minute as Sanju put Grace through on goal with a delightful through ball. The winger swiftly broke through, showed great composure and slotted the ball home to restore India's advantage. Coach Maymol Rocky brought on Anju Tamang in place of Sandhiya midway through the second half at the top of the pitch and in the 78th minute, the move paid rich dividends as she slammed the ball on the volley for India's third goal. Feminism: A crony of capitalism

Is it so terrible to use cloth instead of pads while menstruating? Padmen who make a fortune selling sanitary napkins have informed us that cloth is for curtains and civilised, empowered women are better off using their more expensive product. After all, pads are far more comfortable and convenient, even if they are not biodegradable. Besides why should women bother about the environment when it is doomed anyway? It is simpler to vilify cloth, even though it was good enough for our grandmothers who certainly were not unfortunate, illiterate, and miserable savages who did not know better. I remember an older woman who explained that in the good old days, they would all have a box filled with clean rags that were used, washed, boiled, dried, replaced and reused every month. Dailyhunthttps://imgur.com/user/theaws Of course, I am not advocating that we go back to the days of restricted movement while menstruating, with the stigma thrown in for good measure. But I am merely pointing out that cloth wasn't too bad, and sometimes women like to take three days off from their never-ending chores and workload. Therefore, if there are ladies out there who prefer to use cloth, perhaps we should just leave them alone instead of making condescending movies with sad music about their wretchedness. This applies for innerwear as well. I was told that earlier, women belonging to the lower castes/classes were 'not allowed' to wear blouses or bras and it was only in the latter half of the British reign that they were emancipated. But surely those 'poor, unfortunate' women weren't exactly complaining. In certain parts of the country, like in Kerala, it was perfectly acceptable for ladies to go about their work topless which had to have been ideal given the sweltering conditions. Then came the dark day, when marketing ploys were successfully employed to convince the female of the species that the smart, sexy and sassy among them were the ones who bound their breasts behind the satin, lace and underwire reinforced lingerie that Victoria's Secret had helpfully purveyed at an exorbitant price. And of course, the civilised thing to do was to conceal these behind tailored blouses! Don't even get me started on beauty product-hawking conglomerates who have decided that the only use they have for feminism is to cash in on it. Women are told that their social currency is tied to their 'natural beauty'. Therefore, rather than devoting themselves to their studies, personalities or jobs to get ahead in their lives, it would behove them to make looking good, a full-time job. Today, if a girl is not exquisitely groomed and expensively branded out from head to toe, she may as well go back to the cave she supposedly emerged from. Bring out the war paint, ladies, it is time to free feminism from the chains of consumerism! South Korean police question two K-pop stars in sex scandals

Police said they were investigating allegations that the 28-year-old attempted to arrange illegal sexual services for his business investors. 'I once again lower my head and apologize to the people and all others who were hurt,' Seungri said before entering the police station. 'I'll faithfully undergo an investigation and give sincere answers' to police questioning. In South Korea, celebrities involved in scandals often issue public apologies even as they maintain their innocence. Seungri, whose real name is Lee Seung-hyun, has denied the sexual-bribery allegation; he announced his retirement on Monday. Earlier Thursday, fellow K-pop star Jung Joon-young, 29, came to the police station to be questioned about an allegation that he secretly filmed himself having sex with women and then shared the footage with friends in private group chats. 'I feel very sorry for causing concern to the people and will faithfully undergo an investigation,' Jung told reporters. 'I'm sorry. I'm sorry.' Jung said in a statement Wednesday that he videotaped such footage without the consent of the women in the clips. He apologized to the victims and to those he disappointed and angered. He also said he was retiring from the entertainment industry. Media reports have said Seungri was among the men in a Kakao Talk group chatroom where Jung posted his sex videos. Police said there were several Kakao Talk chatrooms involved but didn't elaborate. The scandals have highlighted a dark side of South Korea's booming yet ultra-competitive entertainment industry. South Korean pop songs, TV dramas and films are hugely popular in Asia and beyond, but male stars have faced allegations of sexual assault and abuse and reports have been made that female entertainers and trainees have been forced to provide sexual services to men in power. Many K-pop stars are recruited by talent agencies as teenagers, some when they are elementary school students, and they often sleep, eat and train together before making a debut. Some suicides have occurred among celebrities in the industry. Big Bang has been one of the most successful bands in K-pop since its debut in 2006, attracting huge, loyal followings in Asia and around the world. Forbes magazine reported in 2016 that the band took home $44 million in pretax earnings in the previous year. Seungri has been engaged in diverse business ventures, including a ramen franchise and a dance academy, and enjoyed displaying his lavish lifestyle. Big Bang is on temporary hiatus as its four other members carry out about two years of military or alternative services, a requirement for all able-bodied men in South Korea. Seungri is set to start his mandatory military service on March 25. By law, the ongoing police investigation cannot prevent Seungri from joining the army unless he's formally arrested before March 25 or voluntarily requests a delay of his enlistment. South Korea's police chief Min Gap Ryong told lawmakers Thursday that he would seek a joint investigation with military authorities if Seungri joins the army as scheduled and avoids an arrest. The performance helped him zoom 13 places to his new career-best ranking. He was followed by Ramkumar Ramanathan (139), who dropped three places. Both of them will try to qualify for the singles main draw of the Miami Masters this week. Yuki, who is nursing a knee injury, slid 36 places to 207. The last time the Delhi player was placed outside the top-200 bracket was in July 2017. Yuki is probably the most unlucky Indian singles player, whose progress has been halted by one or other injury. Whenever he has managed to break the top-100 bracket, injuries forced him to be out of action. Yuki told PTI that he will return to competitive action in May with protected ranking. The next best in the singles chart were Saketh Myneni (251, -5) and Sasi Kumar Mukund (268, +2). Mukund did not figure in even top-400 five months back and has shown good progress in this time period. In the doubles, left-handed Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan touched a new career-high of 64 and was third highest-ranked played of the country after Rohan Bopanna (36,+2) and Divij Sharan (41, -1). Purav Raja (80, -1) and veteran Leander Paes (94, +2) complete the top-five. In the WTA rankings, Ankita Raina continues to be India's top-ranked player at 168 (-2) and was followed by Karman Kaur Thandi, who jumped seven places to 203. Nirav Modi arrested in London, denied bail, sent to custody until March 29 His arrest comes days after a London court issued an arrest warrant against him in response to a request by the Enforcement Directorate for his extradition in connection with the Rs 13,500-crore Punjab National Bank fraud case. In a statement, the London Metropolitan Police said: 'Nirav Deepak Modi, 48, was arrested on behalf of the Indian Authorities on Tuesday in Holborn.' Later, he was produced before the Westminster Magistrates' Court Wednesday, where he contested his extradition to India and Modi's team made their case for bail, offering 500,000 pounds as security and an offer to adhere to 'stringent' conditions. Explained Shot in the arm for Govt, but long road to extradition With elections approaching, the government is likely to use Nirav Modi's arrest to blunt Opposition criticism that he fled the country on BJP's watch. However, in Mallya's case, it took several months to complete the proceedings — his extradition is still pending. Modi's extradition is likely to follow a similar procedure and the CBI and ED probe will have to stand the scrutiny of UK courts. According to PTI, District Judge Marie Mallon, presiding over the hearing, said that she was not inclined to accept Modi's bail plea due the 'high value amount' attached to the allegations against him and that he would have 'every incentive' to evade surrendering before the court. Earlier, the UK daily The Telegraph reported that Modi lives in an £8 million three-bedroom flat in London's West End runs a new diamond business run from an office in Soho. Explained What does Nirav Modi's arrest mean? A senior ED official said: 'We have received confirmation from the Scotland Yard police that Modi has been arrested. He will be produced before the court hearing our extradition plea today.' Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said India continues to follow this matter with the UK to extradite Modi. 'We welcome the fact that Nirav Modi has been arrested by the United Kingdom authorities pursuant to the arrest warrant issued by the Westminster Magistrate Court,' he said. Sources said the ED will also send a team to the UK soon to help the Crown Prosecution Service, which will argue the case on behalf of India, get a favourable order. Exclusive: Telegraph journalists tracked down Nirav Modi, the billionaire diamond tycoon who is a suspect for the biggest banking fraud in India&dhapos;s historyhttps://t.co/PpsjGeFEsy pic.twitter.com/v3dN5NotzQ — The Telegraph (@Telegraph) March 8, 2019 PTI also reported that the CPS told the court that Modi was wanted in India for fraud and money laundering amounting to the tune of $2 billion. Under UK domestic law, the CPS said he is liable on charges of conspiracy to fraud and conspiracy to conceal. 'We do object to bail because there are substantial grounds to believe the requested person (Modi) would fail to surrender,' said Barrister Jonathan Swain, appearing for the CPS. Modi's legal team was headed by Barrister George Hepburne-Scott and his solicitor, Anand Doobay, is the same legal expert hired by liquor baron Vijay Mallya in his extradition proceedings against India. Nirav Modi arrest a fixed match, says Mamata Banerjee Appearing for Modi, Hepburne-Scott said: 'He strongly contests all the allegations and is prepared with comprehensive arguments to support his case…his legal team has had months contact with the extradition squad and expressed his willingness to cooperate.' Modi along with his uncle Mehul Choksi allegedly siphoned off Rs 13,500 crore from PNB through fraudulent of Letters of Undertaking (LoUs) and Letters of Credit. ED and CBI investigations have found that Modi diverted a large part of these funds to family members and for personal purposes. Sources said that according to laid down procedures, Modi will likely be released on bail in due course and the court will then issue notice to the prosecution which will contact Indian authorities to produce necessary evidence and chargesheets, which will signal the beginning of the extradition hearing. Modi's case will likely mirror that of Mallya, who is out on bail since he was arrested on an extradition warrant in 2017. Once the extradition hearing begins, the courts will decide whether the offences Modi is charged are punishable in the UK as well. It will also look into whether the extradition will in any way violate Modi's human rights. If it approves extradition, the courts will send the order to the Home Office for confirmation by UK Home Secretary Sajid Javid. The court order can be challenged and with no appeal, Modi will have to be extradited in 28 days. If the order is confirmed even during the appeal, the final decision will still rest with Javid to send Modi to India. Mallya's extradition is presently pending at this stage. Meanwhile, a Mumbai court has issued a non-bailable warrant against Modi's wife Amy whose last known location was in the US. Amy is also an accused in the PNB scam case with Modi. The court has also allowed the Income Tax Department to auction 68 paintings owned by Modi after the ED gave a no objection certificate to the process. Purifiers crawl out in New India

ome Congress members tried to stop the BJP group, sparking a brawl. In response to a question from this newspaper, Kancha Ilaiah, writer and Dalit activist, said: "'Purification' is an absolutely meaningless act by bigoted people who do cheap politics.. The BJP is converting India into a primitive nation and causing enormous damage to us.."Heramb Chaturvedi, author and history professor at Allahabad University, said: "When garlands are presented to statues of dead people, they are often given to devotees later as prasad.. It is the soul of the deceased that is venerated and not a dead body or statue.. Once the garland itself becomes prasad, where is the question of purifying the statue? This action of people purifying it stems from attempts by some to interpret religious texts according to their own understanding."Before garlanding Shastri's statue on Wednesday, Priyanka addressed a gathering at Assi Ghat and worshipped at Kashi Vishwanath temple. She asked former and current students of Banaras Hindu University, who had gathered at Assi Ghat, if they had got jobs during Modi's tenure as Prime Minister. "No," the youths replied in unison. Dailyhunthttp://doodleordie.com/profile/juckzingchuk

Holika bonfire off roads, orders RMC

Heat causes road surfaces to melt and develop pockmarks. Also, roundabout/ road Holika bonfires pose a threat to commuters."We appealed to residents against Holika Dahan on roads, otherwise be ready for prosecution. This has been done to prevent damage to the bitumen and prevent snarls. We asked all residents to conduct Holika Dahan on flanks of roads," said RMC chief executive officer Manoj Kumar.A source in the RMC explained the need for this advisory. "In the last one year over 50 roads with a bitumen surface have been constructed by the RMC. Heat of the bonfire will cause cracks on the surface. The extent of the damage will be felt during monsoon when water seeps into the cracks to create potholes," said the RMC official. The advisory also appealed to groups to dispose burnt wood in designated municipality vats or at least make heaps on the side to make the job easier for civic waste collectors. The civic body CEO added that more than a half a dozen RMC enforcement teams would be put on vigil during Holika Dahan. "The teams will warn residents against burning Holika bonfires on the road and suggesting roadside flanks. However, if groups do not relent, they will be prosecuted as per Jharkhand Municipal Act 2011," he said. The civic body has also appealed to residents to celebrate a dry Holi with gulal to conserve water in view of the capital's depleting water table. Driver abducts schoolchildren, sets bus ablaze in Italy

NSA quoted one of the students as saying the driver took all their phones and ordered the chaperones to bind the students' hands with cable ties, threatening to spill gas and set the bus ablaze. The student, whose name was not given, said a classmate managed to conceal his phone.Authorities said that an adult called an emergency operator, while one of the students called a parent, and they alerted authorities, who set up roadblocks. The bus was intercepted on the outskirts of Milan by three Carabinieri vehicles, which were able to force it into the guardrail, De Marchis said."While two officers kept the driver busy - he took a lighter and threatened to set fire to the vehicle with a gasoline canister on board - the others forced open the back door," De Marchis said. While the evacuation was underway, the driver started the blaze.De Marchis credited the officers' "swiftness and courage", for getting out all the children and their teachers "with no tragic consequences".Some of the passengers were treated at a hospital, mostly for cuts and scratches related to the evacuation, he said. The driver was apprehended and was being treated for burns. ANSA identified him as Ousseynou Sy and said he was being investigated on suspicion of kidnapping, intention to commit mass murder, arson and resisting law enforcement.De Marchis said he had previous convictions, but did not specify their nature.ANSA reported that Sy, who became an Italian citizen in 2004, had been convicted in 2007 and 2011 of drunken driving and sexual molestation of a minor. Sky TG24 said that the driver had worked for the bus company for 15 years without any employment-related issues."Investigators must clarify how the transport company permitted such a delinquent... to drive a bus, especially one carrying children," said Riccardo De Corato, a Milan provincial official for security.A video showed firefighters dousing the bus that had been completely gutted by flames, leaving only the charred metal frame. This centre offers expert help, free counselling to resolve marital disputes before they reach court

It has five expert counsellors who try and resolve disputes free of cost, Chetan Bhagwat, secretary of DLSA, told The Indian Express. 'So far, we have received 78 applications… those are not only about disputes between married couples but also involve providing solutions in a family tiff'. The main aim of the counselling centre is to provide free legal aid. 'These centres operate independently and have no bearing on any pending cases. The confidentiality of the persons is maintained,' said Bhagwat. Dr Radha Raje, consulting psychologist and a senior counsellor at the centre, said they deal with various kinds of cases. She cited an instance where it took nearly five sessions with a couple to save their marriage. 'In this case, the husband was a psychiatric patient. While she was not told about his condition before the marriage, the woman adjusted and their life was fine when he took medication. However, their marriage was on the verge of collapse when they approached our centre. Her husband had stopped taking medication and had left his job. She had to take up a job to look after the family. She had learnt about this centre when she approached a lawyer friend as she wanted to file a divorce petition. The counselling sessions helped as her husband started taking medication again. We have also called them for a follow-up,' said Dr Raje. 'Our role is to ensure that in this process, their quality of life should not be affected,' she added. Bhagwat said the centre will also cater to senior citizens, especially in cases where a parent is not being treated properly by their child. The centre comes as a relief for warring couples and families that want their problems solved. Instead of spending a significant amount of money and time in courts, or even paying a sizable sum to private counsellors, they can try to resolve their issues at these centres. 'I tell stories of life'

It's a child's plea to the nation's PM for better sanitation in the slums, after his mother is raped on the night of Holi, as she goes to relieve herself for lack of toilets in the slums. 'He asks the PM of the country that what if your mother faced this, how would you feel, and the solution for this problem. The film raises pressing questions that the country is facing in this regard and how it has turned into a law and order problem,' says Mehra. With each film, says Mehra, he wants to raise the bar and devise ways to talk of issues. There are many worlds in our life, adds Mehra, if one strives to look at them and is inspired to create from these. 'I tell stories of life, something hidden, striving to connect people with each other,' says Mehra, who is working on a new project titled Toofan with Farhan Akhtar. It took a long time before the film finally took shape. He was coming back late in the night from Film City about eight years ago and crossed an empty area near the slums. 'As we took a turn, a number of women who were out there to relieve themselves, rushed when they saw the headlights. This stayed in mind for long. It is also the opening scene of my film. According to a survey, 50 per cent of the rapes happen because of lack of toilets,' says Mehra. The film has many layers, one on how the victim (Anjali Patil) deals with the violation, how her eight-year-old son attempts to change things, the support she receives from her people in the colony and how they make her feel no different than before. Patil describes the film as 'the need of the hour', as she shares how beautifully the film depicts the rehabilitation of rape victims and how her character embraces life. 'As an actor coming from a different social background, I understood the life of people in the slums and how they celebrate their struggles and are content in spite of all odds. Children make you see things from a larger perspective and I am so privileged to be a part of it,' says Patil. Mehra says that the film is inspired by Gandhi and dedicated to him. 'There is a huge urban-rural divide from the school level and the sense of inclusiveness is completely lacking. Our own thinking affects our children and we see that here. As filmmakers and writers we need to give opportunities and representation to them. Look at the cricket team. Once a game only of the elite, it took a boy from Ranchi to be a gamechanger and make India a world champion,'says Mehra. Triple Frontier movie review: Netflix delivers the best Ben Affleck film in many, many years

Triple Frontier has that 'something for everyone' quality that could either work in its favour, or be its undoing. It constantly keeps reinventing itself every 15 minutes; it goes from gritty drug drama to slick heist movie, and then transforms into an old-school Western, and ends as a survival thriller/ chase film. Understandably, this may be too much for an audience looking for cheap thrills, but for Chandor and his cast, it's an excuse to play in five movies instead of one, and to use genre to make important subtextual statements about violence, vengeance and warfare. the Triple Frontier trailer here Five former military veterans, bitter about the sorry hand they've been dealt by their country despite literally taking bullets for it, plan to take down a larger-than-life Mexican drug lord and keep all his dirty money for themselves. That is about as much as you need to know going in, and it is roughly a summation of what was shown in the film's trailer. Immediately after having seen it, I remember thinking that the trailer had essentially revealed the entire film's plot. But it turns out that Netflix has taken the Marvel approach to marketing this film, in that what we've seen so far is - to make an informed guesstimate - mostly footage from the first 30 minutes. The element of surprise has largely disappeared from modern mainstream moviemaking. And one of Triple Frontier's greatest accomplishments is how confidently it topples the expectations of a wary and weathered audience. It swerves around into strange and wonderful new directions in its remaining hour-and-a-half, piling set-piece upon set-piece, balancing action (of different styles) with deft character work and brazen political ideas. Pedro Pascal, Garrett Hedlund, Charlie Hunnam, and Ben Affleck in a still from Triple Frontier. ( Courtesy of Netflix ) And although Ben Affleck is (understandably) the top-billed actor in the credits, Oscar Isaac is ostensibly the film's lead. It is he who plays the Bruce Wayne-style role, and rounds up his old brothers for the job. Charlie Hunnam is delivering 'inspirational' speeches to future recruits, and for the first time his typical wooden delivery makes sense. His (actual) brother, played by Garrett Hedlund, is an MMA fighter. Pedro Pascal is once again playing one of his snaky charmers, and Affleck is peddling real estate. They are united by their feelings of resentment towards what they have sacrificed for their country - personally, physically and professionally - and what they have received in return. They are promised that the drug lord Lorea - an unseen entity who lingers like a spectre in the film's opening act - has a stash of close to $75 million, which will be more than fair compensation for all their troubles, past and present. Triple Frontier is part-morality tale about selfishness and greed and corruption, part-parable about the perils of military intervention, but more importantly, it's an insanely entertaining movie. Of course, it's slightly off-putting that it's so bashfully masculine (especially in this day and age), but that can be largely credited to writer Mark Boal's creative inclinations. Ben Affleck ("Redfly") in a still from Netflix's Triple Frontier. ( Courtesy of Netflix ) Boal, the Academy Award-winning writer of recent Kathryn Bigelow films such as The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty and Detroit, is in many ways the only constant in Triple Frontier's long and precarious journey to the (small) screen. Numerous actors - Tom Hanks, Johnny Depp, Will Smith, Tom Hardy to name a few - have signed on and dropped out, several directors were attached before Chandor, including Bigelow, and the film moved from Paramount to Netflix. It'll be interesting to know just how majorly (or not) Boal's original screenplay has changed in these years. One would imagine every lead actor having suggested certain adjustments to tailor the role to suit them, but something tells me Affleck just went along for the ride. He is, for the first time in many years, visibly enthusiastic about acting - and at the very least, he doesn't have that look of pure contempt that was plastered on his face for most of Justice League. Left Front announces candidates for two more candidates for Lok Sabha elections in Bengal

However, Left Front Chairman Biman Bose, in a statement, said if the Congress decides to withdraw candidates in two of the Lok Sabha seats -- Raiganj and Murshidabad -- that the CPI(M) had won in 2014, then the Left, too, might take a "positive step". It would be as per a previous agreed policy of no mutual contest in the seats that both the parties had won last time. "Never did we discuss any alliance between two parties. The discussions have been limited to seat-sharing deal in the state to ensure maximum pooling of anti-BJP and anti-TMC votes. It was also decided that there would be no mutual contest in the six seats -- two of the CPI(M) and four of Congress -- that both the parties had won last time," Bose said. The Congress created confusion by putting up candidates in the two Lok Sabha seats -- Raiganj and Murshidabad, Bose said. His comments comes in the backdrop of the Congress Wednesday blaming CPI(M) for the failure of the seat-sharing talks between the two parties in West Bengal, maintaining its decision to go it alone in the state. "We have decided that we would also put up candidates in Jangipur and Malda North seats. But, if the Congress decides to withdraw candidates in the two seats won by the CPI(M) last time, then the Left, too, might take a positive step regarding it and might reconsider its decision," he said. Senior Congress leader Pradip Bhattacharya earlier in the day said: "The seat-sharing talks failed as CPI(M) and Left Front were not keen on a formal alliance. They just wanted a seat-sharing deal for this election. We were not ready for such a marriage of convenience. We were not ready to forge a seat-sharing deal by compromising our dignity." There is no question of going back on the list of candidates for 11 seats in the state that the Congress announced on Monday night, he said, adding, the party will fight the coming Lok Sabha polls on its own in the state. Tips and tricks to help home-buyers in the new financial year

Here's what to look out for. An eye on the polls This is a deciding year for real estate, particularly with the general elections in May, says Muddasir Zaidi, executive director at realty advisory Knight Frank. If you're looking to buy a home immediately, he recommends waiting until after the poll results. 'If a strong coalition government is elected, there could be several changes in property sale policies.' For example, if one party is for reducing prices by introducing policy changes, and the other party favours developers minting profits, they will arrive at a solution and that may or may not be helpful to buyers, he explains. If the elections do cast a shadow on the realty sector, it will be for a limited time, mostly because there are fewer sales during the period. Developers typically prefer to sell unsold stock rather than launch new projects, says Anuj Puri, chairman of Anarock, a property consultancy firm. 'It might be a good time for home buyers to do some hard bargaining,' he says. Skyscrapers rise, will prices drop? A big change, is the trend of developers willing to negotiate prices with buyers, says Pankaj Kapoor, managing director of Liases Foras, a real-estate research organisation. 'As the prices of inventories are inflated, and most of them remain unsold, we are seeing sellers ready to reduce prices.' Moreover, there will be a slight decrease in the home prices anyway because of the liquidity crisis, he adds. But if you're looking to buy a home simply to get great returns on it in the short term, say the next three to four years, this might not be such a good time to splurge on a flat. 'It is unlikely that there will be appreciation of prices in that time,' says Kapoor, explaining that it is a fallout of the prevailing liquidity crunch. 'But if people are buying their first house or upgrading from a small house to a medium-sized one, now is the time to reap the benefits.' The Non-Banking Finance Companies (NBFC) crisis also means developers are also offering various incentives to spur demand, says Abhinav Joshi, Head of Research, CBRE India, a realty consultancy. Most buyers today will look for a home loan. Experts advise taking a second look at home loan repayment rates across various banks. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has slashed the repo rates recently, which prompted a few banks to slash their home loan rates, says Puri. 'Fearing delays, stalled projects and an added cost of stamp duty and taxes, homebuyers have also been preferring ready properties that are exempt from GST charges.' And the reduction in GST prices will pave way for more buyers. Zaidi says the GST will be reduced from the current 12% to most likely 5% but will be confirmed after the GST council finalises it on February 24. This will relieve buyers up to some extent. 'The move by the government with the election around the corner is aimed towards buyers as it clearly does not benefit the developers,' he adds. Is cheaper always better? With the affordable housing segment growing, buyers might seem like there is a bonanza for cheap homes. But Puri advises additional vigilance about selecting the right property in the right location and by a builder of good track record. In the last 2-3 years, the affordable-home concept was in its nascent stage. Now every builder wants a slice. The years 2019-2020 will see more builders coming up with affordable projects. 'While cheaper options are available in far-flung areas, investors must opt for locations that have good connectivity to the city,' says Puri. People should be aware of the schemes available in the affordable housing segment too, cautions Zaidi. 'Developers, big and small are all entering the segment. There can be houses tagged 'affordable' due to their size and criteria, but won't fetch any government incentive for the buyers. For instance, the Haryana state government clearly defines the size, price and area of an affordable housing that can help customers get some leeway in their home loans.' From Brexit to Balakot: Countries, companies, and the age of unstoppable commerce

ercenary British governments are, of course, a matter of vintage. Making a business opportunity out of people wanting to visit the UK might just be ahead of the curve, just as the East India Company was, in late medieval India. The revenue-hungry UK home office in this sense marks the closing of the loop - from company to empire and back to company. Albeit this time, the company makes its money out of commercial ingenuity sans the plunder. This is the modern, rule of law State visualizing itself as a profit-making enterprise. While the Indian government has not caught onto the diverse revenue-generating opportunities that visas might afford, its relationship with companies is primordial - since Independence, it has run several key companies itself as public sector undertakings. The PSU was once the crown jewel in a new nation's quest for stability, growth and prosperity. Today, it symbolizes the slow death of the ancien régime where ardent national interest alone was believed to be sufficient in driving commerce. Except a few notable outliers and natural monopolies, most PSUs can neither compete, nor are they efficiently governed. The prime example of PSU non-performance is Air India. So bleak are its prospects that despite having a significant fleet, prime slots at airports, a reputed brand and being part of the Star Alliance network, not a single bidder submitted an Expression of Interest to the Government of India during Air India's latest divestment process in 2018. Its corporate governance framework, like several other PSUs, reads like a laundry list of exemptions from the law. Unsurprisingly, the airline is expected to make losses between 1.5 to 2 billion USD over the next two years, possibly funded by the Indian taxpayer. This is over and above the successive bailouts using taxpayer money to keep the cash-strapped airline afloat. The Maharaja in the skies is a national embarrassment, a living sign of State failure in running a company. As States run companies and become increasingly company-like, companies are becoming increasingly State-like in their demeanour and public posturing. In a wide-ranging blog post recently, Mark Zuckerberg announced his 'privacy-focused vision for social networking'. The vision is grand in its ambition. It promises a new type of personal communication based on private messaging that is encrypted, safe and private. It claims to respond to popular concerns with Facebook and build several features that allow individuals to communicate without being afraid of snooping governments, data thieves and leaving a trail of embarrassing photographs. Facebook now wants to be more than the digital town square where people can broadcast their views. Armed with its group entities, WhatsApp and Instagram, it is also shaping up as the digital living room where people can talk to each other in private. Four parts of this vision are particularly striking. First, despite the furore over Cambridge Analytica and the sharing of personal data in unexpected ways, Facebook's strategic shift was not primarily prompted by legislation or regulation - it was a product of introspection. Facebook responded to popular pressure; most governments merely postured but failed to act decisively. Second, in the entire vision statement, the key audience is not the Facebook shareholder but, rather, the general public. Zuckerberg has himself taken on the mantle of defending privacy and freedom of expression of every internet user so that, in his own words, "people can speak privately and live freely." Third, the move towards privacy is not a fundamental change to the way in which Facebook itself operates. In fact, nothing in this vision says that Facebook will stop advertisement-based revenue that is contingent on the collection of personal data. Instead, it will additionally provide safe private messaging and value-added products like payments on that application. Like a lot of political messaging, its silences are as critical as its declarations. Finally, Facebook promises to roll out these changes in an open and participatory manner. This is quite like a democratic process where decisions are taken based on public reason and not on secretive boardroom determination. That each of these aspects is salutary for the future of Facebook and the internet is arguable, although beside the point of this piece. What is unarguable, however, is that taken together, they make Facebook more democratic and responsive, and Zuckerberg himself emerges as the self-anointed defender of human values worldwide. This is not just about Facebook. From Brexit to Balakot, as States unsuccessfully look to deliver the people's mandate on lightning rod issues, the everyday lives of people continue to be monopolized by private companies. From highways to communications, banks to schools, the decline of the State is palpable. As the continuing saga of Air India demonstrates, the answer to the failure of the service provider State was to attempt to privatize these services. But with the country fashioning itself as a company in the banal matter of visa processing on the one hand and the company taking on the mantle of a responsive, borderless governance behemoth on the other, we appear to be moving beyond mere privatization and seeing the early signs of the age of unstoppable commerce. We have been in this age before. In the 1680s, Elihu Yale served as the governor of Fort St George, the outpost of the East India Company in Madras. Yale ran Madras autonomously, imposing high taxes and administering the slave trade which firmly established the rule of the Company. His office made him enormously wealthy and the Company dismissed him for 'self-aggrandizement at company expense'. The most notable fruit of his riches was Yale University to which he made successive gifts, ultimately resulting in the university itself being named after him in 1745. The government was then, quite literally, a company, and Yale as its governor had a larger-than-life global footprint. Zuckerberg may not be running a province and countries may not actually be companies yet, but unstoppable commerce and its emanations, both then and now, are defining the course of human history. Jet Airways crisis: Pilots look to board SpiceJet as IndiGo captains seek to abort their entry

The Gurugram-based SpiceJet, which has all its 12 Boeing Max planes grounded following the crash of an Ethiopian Airline plane early this month, is looking to hire pilots for its expansion plans and has also conducted walk-in interviews here, Wednesday. "As many as 260 Jet pilots, including 150 captains, appeared for the interviews in Mumbai today," a SpiceJet source said. Unlike IndiGo, which flies majorly Airbus 320s, SpiceJet has Boeing 737s in the fleet. On the other hand, it can be noted that majority Jet Airways pilots are trained and type-rated for Boeing planes, the source said. IndiGo is offering jobs to Jet pilots along with compensation for overdue salaries from the full-service airline. It can be noted that pilots at full-service carriers get higher pay and other benefits. With no assurance on the payment of their pending salaries, Jet pilots had Tuesday warned that they would stop flying from April 1 if the management failed to provide clarity on the revival plan along with a deadline to clear their salary dues by March 31. According to IndiGo, all job offers are in line with its current terms and conditions. But its own pilots have termed the move as "injustice" and "unacceptable". "They are taking us lightly. Offer to Jet Airways pilots is sheer injustice to us as they're being offered a two-month bonus along with the same designation-salary," argued an IndiGo source. Moreover, they have also been allowed to choose their operational base, which is unacceptable to the IndiGo pilots, the source added. Questions sent to IndiGo chief operating officer Wolfgang Prock-Schauer as also to its spokesperson did not elicit any response. "The management is saying it is not a bonus but it is compensation for their (Jet pilots) delayed salaries. Are we also not entitled to similar bonuses?" the source asked. Also, Jet pilots are joining with designation protection. So, basically, if a non-type-rated examiner is joining us, she/he will be joining with pay protection of the IndiGo examiner, pointed out the source. Alleging that the IndiGo pilots have not been given a hike since the last three-four years, the source also pointed out that after joining, the Jet pilots will again get a hike when Indigo revises the salaries of its existing pilots. Congress MLA in Rajasthan makes sarpanch sit on floor, apology sought

'I am very disappointed with the behaviour meted out to me by Maderna. I had gone to the meeting on the insistence of villagers and also sat on the dais after they wanted me to sit beside the MLA,' Devi said. Maderna, however, pointed out that the sarpanch belonged to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and asked how she could be allowed to sit on the dais in a meeting that was organised to give thanks to villagers for voting the Congress MLA to power. Later, the Osian MLA said she did not know that Devi was a sarpanch as the latter's face was covered under a veil. 'I could not recognise her. I considered her a simple villager and thought that she had come to me on the dais with some grievance.' In the video, however, it could be seen that Devi first greeted Maderna and had almost seated on the chair when the legislator asked her to sit with the villagers. Maderna has been taking a round of villages of her constituency to pay gratitude to voters for electing her. Dailyhunthttp://profile.hatena.ne.jp/jeenjeeleera/

Can sleep deprivation affect your fertility?

Does sleep really affect fertility in men and women? On World Sleep Day 2019, Express Parenting got in touch with Dr Manjiri Mehta, consultant gynecologist, obstetrician, and laparoscopic surgeon, Hiranandani Hospital Vashi, to know how sleep is related to fertility. Here's what she said: There are no hard scientific proofs to suggest that sleep affects fertility directly, in either men or women. But the same part of the brain, which controls sleep and the hormones related to it, also controls the functions of ovulation and sperm formation. That is one reason why sleep and fertility are indirectly related. Secondly, sleep deprivation is surely known to cause poor sperm production and also interferes with the release of the ovum, in case of a female. In addition to this, the hormones that are important from the point of view of the reproductive function of the body, have their own diurnal cycle, that is, their levels alternate during the day time and night, apart from the monthly cycle. Testosterone, for instance, is supposed to be high during the night. If your sleep cycle is altered, then obviously the levels of these hormones also get interfered with, which reflects on your fertility in some way. What is the ideal amount of sleep for a man or woman? A man or a woman should ideally have seven to eight hours of uninterrupted sleep. That is enough to regularise your body functions. Keep your sleeping time fixed as far as possible. How to have a good sleep 1. Keep a fixed bedtime. 2. Have your dinner a little early so that there is enough gap between your dinner time and bedtime. 3. Most importantly, avoid exposure to any screen or gadget for at least an hour before it is your bedtime. 4. Have a light dinner. If you are too full, falling asleep becomes difficult. 5. A good bed and pillow are some of the prerequisites so that you can sleep comfortably. 6. Try to reduce stress. Don't bring your work home or at least try to do as less as possible. JK bureaucrats being browbeaten for supporting early state polls, says Omar

oon after the Election Commission announced not to hold Assembly elections in the state for the time being, the National Conference leader had said that the Centre has surrendered before Pakistan, militants and separatists as they were the ones who did not want the polls to be held in time."No honest officer should fear these threats. We must put the greater good ahead of our personal preferences & benefits. Those people making the threats will not remain in the state for very long," the former chief minister said.Omar said while some of the officers posted in Jammu and Kashmir had no stake in the state, few others were securing post-retirement postings."Some have no stakes in the state & some are looking at post retirement postings in cushy appointments. What ever their reasons they have chosen to put their personal interest ahead of the greater good," he said."One day we will talk about the cabal of officers in J&K who for their own selfish reasons have taken it upon themselves to scuttle democracy in the state," he added. Christchurch gun shop sold rifles online to accused shooter

There have been concerns that intelligence agencies have been overly focused on the Muslim community in detecting and preventing security risks. Police commissioner Mike Bush said the police are certain Tarrant was the only gunman but aren't ruling out that he had support."I would like to state that we believe absolutely there was only one attacker responsible for this," he told a news conference. "That doesn't mean there weren't possibly other people in support and that continues to form a very, very important part of our investigation."None of the guns sold to Tarrant were military-style, semi-automatic weapons, according to Tipple. It was not clear if any of the firearms Tarrant purchased from Gun City were used in Friday's shootings. In vowing to tighten gun laws, Ardern has said the attacker used five guns, two of them semi-automatic, which were purchased with an ordinary gun license and modified.Tipple said he felt no responsibility for the tragedy and refused to say whether he believed gun ownership laws should change in New Zealand, insisting a debate over guns should be held at another time."This man wrote in his manifesto that the purpose of using a firearm was to divide us," Tipple said. "If we allow him to make changes in our ideology, in our behaviour, he's won."His store has been criticised for leaving out a roadside advertising billboard that shows a parent helping children with rifle target practice in the wake of the shootings. 1687003 Dailyhunt[http://onlineboxing.net/jforum/user/profile/19080.page](http://onlineboxing.net/jforum/user/profile/19080.page)

Six fashion options for men for New Year party

Casual pub drinks: In most cases dressing up for a pub scene is not required, but for the New Year party, it's worth putting a little extra effort. The cold weather allows for plenty of layering opportunities. You can wear your overshirts and chunky knits under stylish coats or blazers. Keep things tonal and try out a roll neck under an overcoat and combine it with a denim and a pair of rubber-soled boots for a rugged take on casual dressing. For the final touch, wrap the patterned scarf in grey or black tone to complement the coat, and loosely wrap around the neck. Night out: You will be freezing outside yet sweating inside if you overdo it, so correct layering is an essential while you dress up for a cold winter night. Leave the big coats behind and opt for bomber jacket instead which is more compact yet equally comfortable. For the middle layer, go for a deep red or a burgundy shirt worn untucked over a slim pair of black jeans. Salesh Grover, Business Head, OSL Luxury Collections Pvt Ltd - Corneliani, has some more suggestions: Office party: Try to opt for suits which are less formal; lapels are slimmer. Pair your blazer with a crew neck T-Shirt and a navy blue jeans or narrow trousers. Here, instead of formal footwear you can choose a pair of white sneakers to complete your look. A kind of semi-formal vibe is perfect for office parties. Black tie event: A black tuxedo is all what you need. Well-groomed hair and a perfectly tied bow tie. For a more classic appeal, go for midnight blue tuxedo. Alternatively, a velvet dinner jacket is worthy of all substitutes. Corporate party: Give classic black suit a break, instead opt for patterned dinner jackets. A turtleneck is a best alternative to standard white shirt and tie. You may wear it with trousers or can pair it up with a blazer, it goes intricately well with plaided suits. In fact, corduroy suits are perfect for corporate evenings and can be paired with a basic tee or swiss roll necks. Dailyhunthttps://about.me/juck

The survey was conducted among more than 25,000 people in 24 countries about their cuisine preferences. Boeing's safety analysis of 737 MAX flight control had crucial flaws: Report

It has said the 737-MAX certification process followed the FAA's standard certification process. The report also said both Boeing and the FAA were informed of the specifics of this story and were asked for responses 11 days ago, before the crash of an Ethiopian Airlines 737 MAX last Sunday that killed all 157 people on board. The same model flown by Lion Air crashed off the coast of Indonesia in October, killing all 189 on board. Last Monday Boeing said it would deploy a software upgrade to the 737 MAX 8, a few hours after the FAA said it would mandate "design changes" in the aircraft by April. A Boeing spokesman said 737 MAX was certified in accordance with the identical FAA requirements and processes that have governed certification of all previous new airplanes and derivatives. The spokesman said the FAA concluded that MCAS on 737 MAX met all certification and regulatory requirements. ... Dailyhunthttp://rhubarbblue.com/UserProfile/tabid/61/userId/369769/Default.aspx

Let Rahul Gandhi decide on second seat, we will pick one, says Dinesh Gundurao

If Mr Gandhi wishes, it will be a matter of pride for us to offer a seat to him,' he explained. He added that Mr Gandhi will be arriving in the state on Monday and it will be decided then whether he should contest from North-Karnataka or South-Karnataka if at all he decides to contest from the state too. Playing down reports that Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwar was upset with state leaders, Mr Rao asserted that Dr Parameshwar was a pan-Karnataka leader and the party does not treat him as a mere Tumakuru leader. 'No doubt he represents Tumakuru, but leaders like Dr Parameshwar or former chief minister, Siddaramaiah cannot be restricted to their home districts. They are all pan-Karnataka leaders. Hence, the party also treats these leaders in that manner,' he said. He however admitted that state leaders were upset with the central leadership's decision to give up the Tumakuru seat to JD(S). It further suggested expeditious roll-out of Ayushman Bharat and reducing education cost by minimising GST on outsourced education services from 18 per cent to 5 per cent. nterview: 'BJP leaders willing to join us; it has to be unconditional'

I Our target is to reach out to people and give them the same confidence. The fact is that the situation at the centre is worse than the situation in Rajasthan's BJP government. PM Narendra Modi is running the government on catchphrases and assurances, and decision taken by them such as demonetisation and GST had led to a negative impact on people - factories have closed, purchasing power and productivity reduced, there's an increase in unemployment. Agenda of Modi government nationwide is that in name of nationalism and Hindutva communal harmony and brotherhood has been disturbed. If we combine the statement and confusion among the people - BJP's agenda is to change history of freedom and the country with their definition of Hinduism and patriotism, which is creating confusion and sense of insecurity in society. In the past when Congress ruled Rajasthan, the party never won more than 20 Lok Sabha seats. What will change the situation this time? People's confidence and their suffering in last five years. The kind of sentiments are there, border and military actions are politicised to divert people from basic issues. The Modi government has failed on all fronts, be it farmer agony, youth employment, infrastructure (works started and launched during Congress and UPA government were stalled). The intentions of this government were not clear, which adversely affected development. On the other hand, incidents of lynching or killing of bovines were linked with communal agenda. Do you think recent incidents on border will favour BJP? I don't think so. People of the country are intelligent and understand it. This might affect for some time, but not for long. Earlier, Indira Gandhi divided Pakistan, around lakh commander surrendered -what happened recently is country's pride, shouldn't Modi also mention what happened in past by Indira Gandhi? Modi is politicising what happened at the border. This is the concern for everyone. Anyone who attacks our country or freedom, every citizen or political party is united. Is Congress questioning army's action? Nobody is questioning. This is misinterpreted, everything is twisted wrongly. When entire world is asking, it is question on credibility of the country. If some foreign media or leaders are asking to justify as different versions are published (regarding the Balakot air strikes), it is the responsibility of the country and not of a single person to reply. Your government (in the state) has barely been there for three-four months, what do you think has worked in your favour in this short time? The promises made to the people, especially during the election campaign. I think sincerely and honestly, the Congress government has not only tried (to fulfil them) but also on field showed them the decision taken in last two months such as on loan waiver, restart of major infrastructure projects and unemployment allowance. Government is doing its best, which has boosted the party's morale and confidence of people. How many MLAs will be fielded in the LS and new faces? Efforts are on to field best candidates and that include MLAs also. There are many functionaries in the party; target is to field good and winnable candidates, who can serve the nation. The process is on and final discussions will be taken by the Central Election Committee. In general, the trend is that the party introduces new faces on around a dozen seats, will this be continued? What about opportunity to women? Definitely, there will be new faces. Women will also be there. Our efforts are there, but focus is on winning prospect; wherever such women candidates will be, they will be given preference. Is the party expecting some 'export' from BJP? If yes, will they be contesting? There are requests from senior leaders and in coming days you will hear the names. They are joining, but it has to be unconditional. But if the party feels that they can be better candidate, they can be considered. On many instances the CM and Deputy CM had mention about their cordial relations. What is the need to clarify? Because… that is the only thing which media is trying to play in the hands of Modi and BJP for last few years. The way it is played in media every day, they have all the right to clarify their position. What all challenges are you facing for Lok Sabha election? Is it becoming difficult to identify candidates with prominent leaders entering the assembly? People who have been elected as MLA…this is Congress party, we do not have dearth of winnable leaders in every constituency. As they are known faces, people in general have more expectations or confidence, but fortunately in second line there are good leaders, where the senior have role to encourage and promote them. We are playing a balanced role, consulting all leaders and wherever there is winnability by introducing new faces, party can perform better, will be fielded. We are looking at leaders who have worked for the organisation, popular among the people and can serve for long. Dailyhunthttp://www.feedbooks.com/user/5021642/profile
