Lucknow: Seven months after Congress MLC joined BJP, government orders withdrawal of 2013 case
The trial of the case is pending at a special court in Prayagraj. "The withdrawal application in a case against Dinesh Singh was yesterday moved in the concerned court. We received withdrawal application from the state government through the office of the Rae Bareli district magistrate," said District Government Council, Prayagraj, Gulab Chandra Agrihari. BJP's tool: A deflection in Gandhi bastion ON APRIL 22 this year, the BJP had organised a massive public meeting addressed by party chief Amit Shah in Gandhi bastion Rae Bareli to welcome Congress MLC Dinesh Pratap Singh and his supporters into the party fold. The Congress has filed a petition in the State Legislative Council seeking the cancellation of Singh's membership under the anti-defection law, but the decision is pending. Dinesh's brother Rakesh Singh too is a Congress MLA from Rae Bareli's Harchandpur constituency, but he has not joined BJP so far. Sources said the BJP is all set to use Dinesh Singh against Congress in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Singh was known to be close to the Gandhi family, and the party's strong hand in the district. Police said Singh and others had staged a protest at the Digiya Bazaar crossing, blocking the Sultanpur-Rae Bareli Highway due to which movement of vehicles including an ambulance had been blocked. Police had then used force to disperse the crowd. Later, on the basis of a complaint filed by the then station officer of Mill Area police station, an FIR was lodged against Dinesh Singh and 10 others under IPC sections 145 (joining or continuing in unlawful assembly, knowing it has been commanded to disperse), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 283 (danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation). The Rae Bareli police investigated the case and then filed a chargesheet against all 11 accused on the same charges in January 2016. "I was on the way to Sultanpur when I saw people protesting on the roadside at Digiya Bazaar locality. They were protesting over an attack on a businessman, Badrinath, who suffered serious injuries after being thrashed by two motorcyclists. Local residents stopped my vehicle as I was a public representative. Being an MLC, I joined the protest but there was no blockade on the road. Police falsely lodged a case and implicated me," said Dinesh Singh. He further said, "I had requested Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to conduct an inquiry because the then Samajwadi Party government had falsely named me in the case. I requested chief minister that if they found that the case was lodged on false allegations, then to withdraw it. I don't know the present status of the case." He added that Congress had moved for his disqualification under the anti-defectionl aw, which is still pending. In January this year, the state government had withdraw a criminal case against former deputy SP and Congress leader Shailendra Singh, who joined BJP during the Lok Sabha polls in 2014. In 2008, Shailendra was booked by Hazratganj police in Lucknow for allegedly indulging in a ruckus at the State Information Commission (SIC) office. Dailyhunthttps://vimeo.com/user91441398/about
Ludhiana: Woman booked for extortion slits wrist at police station, stable
They said when she was being questioned regarding the case, she threatened to end her life. She then asked for permission to go to the washroom and slit her wrist inside, they claimed. The woman, a dancer with an orchestra group, was booked in an FIR for allegedly extorting Rs 40,000 from a man from whom she took a lift in his car. The complainant, Mohammad Iliyaas from Arjun Nagar, claimed that on the night of November 30, he was going to Jalandhar bypass from Sherpur in his car when the woman asked for a lift and he agreed. So he gave her Rs 40,000 which he had then, he told police. The police filed FIR against the woman under IPC section 386 (extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt). China calls on Canada to free Huawei CFO or face consequences
No decision was reached at the extradition hearing after nearly six hours of arguments and counter-arguments, and the hearing was adjourned until Monday. In a short statement, China's Foreign Ministry said that Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng had issued the warning to release Meng to Canada's ambassador in Beijing, summoning him to lodge a 'strong protest.' Adam Austen, a spokesman for Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland, said Saturday there is 'nothing to add beyond what the Minister said yesterday'. Freeland told reporters on Friday that relationship with China is important and valued, and Canada's ambassador in Beijing has assured Chinese that consular access will be provided to Meng. When asked about the possible Chinese backlash after the arrest of Huawei's CFO, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told reporters on Friday that Canada has a very good relationship with Beijing. Canada's arrest of Meng at the request of the United States while she was changing plane in Vancouver was a serious breach of her lawful rights, Le said. The move 'ignored the law, was unreasonable' and was in its very nature 'extremely nasty,' he added. 'China strongly urges the Canadian side to immediately release the detained person, and earnestly protect their lawful, legitimate rights, otherwise Canada must accept full responsibility for the serious consequences caused.' The statement did not elaborate. 'There will probably be a deep freeze with the Chinese in high-level visits and exchanges,' David Mulroney, former Canadian ambassador to China, said on Friday. 'The ability to talk about free trade will be put in the ice box for a while. But we're going to have to live with that. That's the price of dealing with a country like China.' Meng's arrest was on the same day that US President Donald Trump met in Argentina with China's Xi Jinping to look for ways to resolve an escalating trade war between the world's two largest economies. 'We are tracking the developments of this case and refer you to the filings in the Supreme Court of British Columbia,' said a US State Department official, speaking on condition of anonymity. The news of Meng's arrest has roiled stock markets and drawn condemnation from Chinese authorities, although Trump and his top economic advisers have played down its importance to trade talks after the two leaders agreed to a truce. A Huawei spokesman said on Friday the company has 'every confidence that the Canadian and US legal systems will reach the right conclusion.' The company has said it complies with all applicable export control and sanctions laws and other regulations. ... Dailyhunthttps://issuu.com/zeeonees
Arvind seeks data review by 'expert'
ubramanian, who criticised demonetisation in his new book, titled Of Counsel: The Challenges of the Modi-Jaitley Economy, was, however, evasive when asked if he was consulted in the decision-making process on note ban. "As an economist, I think there are some puzzles (new back series GDP data) there are some issues that need to be explained. As there are things that need to be explained, we should, just to create confidence and eliminate any uncertainty or doubts, I think we should have experts who can investigate this thoroughly and give their answers," Subramanian told PTI in an interview. On the controversy over the Niti Aayog's presence at the release of the GDP back series data by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) last month, he said experts should have the main job of producing and explaining data. "I think this (calculation of GDP) is a very technical task and technical experts should do the task, institutions that don't have technical expertise should not be involved in this," he said. Recalibrating data of past years using 2011-12 as the base year instead of 2004-05, the CSO last month lowered the country's economic growth rate during the previous Congress-led UPA's regime. Asked whether he was consulted in the decision-making process on demonetisation, the former CEA said, "In the book, I said that this is not a Kiss and Tell memoir, that is for gossip columnists."Referring to criticism that he did not speak on demonetisation when he was working for the government, Subramanian said, "People will say whatever they say, right. But through my new book, I was drawing attention to the puzzle, 86 per cent reduction in cash (after demonetisation) and yet the impact on the economy was much less."Slowdown warningSubramanian warned that the Indian economy was in for a slowdown for some time as agriculture and financial system were under stress."We have to brace ourselves for a slowdown for some time. I say that for a combination of reasons. First of all, the financial system is under stress. This is not conducive for rapid growth... The agriculture sector remains under stress," he said. France to consider state of emergency to contain violent riots
French President Emmanuel Macron said on Saturday that the wave of violence and vandalism in Paris on Saturday could not be justified in any way and had nothing to do with a peaceful expression of legitimate anger. 'No cause justifies that security forces are attacked, shops pillaged, public or private buildings set on fire, pedestrians or journalists threatened or that the Arc de Triomphe is sullied,' Macron told a news conference in Buenos Aires, where he was attending the G20 summit. Declining to take questions after a day of rioting in Paris, he said those who had carried out the violence merely sought to spread chaos. He said he would convene a meeting of senior ministers has soon as he returns to discuss how to respond. Fuel tax riots engulf central Paris Rioters ran amok across central Paris on Saturday, torching cars and buildings, looting shops, smashing windows and clashing with police, posing a dire challenge to Emmanuel Macron's presidency. The authorities were caught off guard by the escalation in violence after two weeks of nationwide protests against fuel taxes and living costs, known as the 'yellow vest' movement after fluorescent jackets kept in all vehicles in France. In Paris, police said they had arrested almost 300 people while 110 were injured, including 20 members of the security forces. Police fired stun grenades, tear gas and water cannon at protesters at the top of the Champs-Elysees boulevard, at the Tuilleries Garden near the Louvre museum and other sites. In some areas there was virtually no police presence at all, as groups of masked men roamed in the shadows of the capital's fabled landmarks and through its fanciest shopping districts, smashing the windows of designer boutiques. The popular rebellion erupted out of nowhere on Nov. 17 and has spread quickly via social media, with protesters blocking roads across France and impeding access to shopping malls, factories and some fuel depots. On Saturday, some targeted the Arc de Triomphe, chanting 'Macron Resign' and scrawling on the facade of the towering 19th-century arch: 'The yellow vests will triumph.' Protesters smashed the windows of a newly opened flagship Apple Store and luxury boutiques of Chanel and Dior, where they daubed the slogan 'Merry Mayhem' on a wooden board. Close to the Place Vendome, Christmas trees decorating the streets were upended, piled in the middle of an avenue and set ablaze, prompting chanting from scores of protesters. Order appeared to have been restored late in the evening, although small groups were still at odds with police near the Champs Elysees. Authorities said violent far-right and far-left groups had infiltrated the yellow vests movement. Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said most of those arrested were regular protesters who had been egged on by the fringe groups. The protests began as a backlash against Macron's fuel tax hikes, but have tapped into a vein of deep dissatisfaction felt towards the 40-year-old's economic reforms, which many voters feel favour the wealthy and big business. Unrest erupted in several towns and cities across France, from Charleville Mezieres in the northeast to Marseille in the south. In the Riviera city of Nice trucks blocked access to the airport, and in the central town of Puy-en-Velay the police headquarters was set on fire. The protests are taking a toll on the economy. Parts of central Paris that should have been packed with tourists and Christmas shoppers resembled battle zones, as smoke and tear gas hung in the air and debris littered the ground. Hotels and department stores in the capital stand to lose millions, and shelves have run empty in some supermarkets. Dailyhunthttps://www.viki.com/users/jeffb_ecc_ossa_maz_o_68/about

RANJI-GROUP B: Tamil Nadu beat Kerala to register first win of season Tamil Nadu registered their first win of the season, beating Kerala by 151 runs Sunday in a Ranji Trophy Elite Group 'B' match at the M A Chidambaram stadium on Sunday. They are now at fifth place in the standings with 11 points. Kerala are second in the group on 13 points behind Madhya Pradesh (18). Needing 369 to win their third match, Kerala were bowled out for 217 despite half-centuries from Sanju Samson (91) and Sijomon Joseph (55). The two added 93 runs for the third wicket to defy the Tamil Nadu bowlers, who were on the lookout for breakthroughs. Resuming at 27 for 1 this morning, Kerala lost K B Arun Karthick for 33 to a catch by N Jagadeesan off Sai Kishore's bowling. The partnership between Samson and Sijomon Joseph, who showed great resolve, raised Kerala's hopes of pulling off a draw. Left-arm medium-pacer T Natarajan, who was the star for the home side in the second innings picking up five wickets, broke through by getting Joseph leg-before. None of the other batsmen showed any resistance as Natarajan triggered the collapse and sealed an important and much-needed win for Tamil Nadu. RANJI-GROUP C Ranji Trophy: Jharkhand bowlers held their nerves as they guided their team to a nail-biting 2-run win over Odisha in the Elite Group C Ranji Trophy game on Sunday. Subransu Senapati played a valiant unbeaten knock of 157 off 321 balls for the visitors, farming the strike beautifully in the company of the last two batsmen, but failed to take his team past the finishing line. Chasing a stiff target of 260, Odisha were reeling at 8-154 when Senapati stitched two crucial partnerships with number 10 Basant Mohanty (4 off 38 balls) and number 11 Dhiraj Singh (7 off 43 balls) to take his side on the cusp of a memorable win. But experienced pacer Varun Aaron (2-57) cleaned up Dhiraj Singh to dash off Odisha's hopes as Jharkhand registered a heart-stopping win after conceding the first innings lead at the JSCA International Stadium. For the hosts, Anukul Roy (4-51) was the main wicket-taker who was ably supported by Aaron, Rahul Shukla (2-43), Ashish Kumar (1-36) and Rahul Prasad (1-64). Senapati held the fort from one end but fell short of partners. But he was adjourned as the Man of the Match. The close match brought back memories of the unforgettable 1991-92 final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai when Kapil Dev's Haryana managed victory by a similar margin against Mumbai to lift the Ranji Trophy. Meanwhile, at Agartala, Haryana clinched six points as they defeated hosts Tripura by 55 runs. At Porvorim, the Goa versus Services match ended in a tame draw with the hosts grabbing 3 points on the basis of their first innings lead. RANJI-PLATE Dhapola stars in Uttarakhand's fifth win on trot Uttarakhand pace sensation Deepak Dhapola returned a match haul of 11 wickets to help his side beat Meghalaya by eight wickets and secure a fifth win on the trot in the Ranji Trophy Plate Group on Sunday. Dhapola, who bagged a six-for in the first innings including a hat-trick, bagged 5/59 for a match haul of 11/111, as Meghalaya were bundled out for 230 in the final session. Set a target of 51 under fading lights, Uttarakhand knocked it off in 6.1 overs, courtesy Vaibhav Singh Panwar's 12-ball 32 not out (6×4, 1×6). Uttarakhand sit pretty on top of the table with 33 points, with a huge 14-point lead over second placed Meghalaya. Such has been the dominance by the Rajat Bhatia-led side that they are the only side in this season's Ranji Trophy yet to lose or draw a match. The skipper led from the front with three back-to-back centuries, which included a double. But the biggest find for Uttarakhand has been the 28-year-old pacer Dhapola who leads the charts with 37 wickets at a stunning average of 9.89. Dailyhunthttp://www.pearltrees.com/zeevanjosna
