Singer Chinmayi says her credit removed from a Tamil song

Chinmayi first noticed this when a fan tweeted and asked, 'Now why the hell is @Chinmayi's name left out from the lyrical video? This is all so bad. Jio studios being pressurized to do so?' To which she replied, 'I didn't know until I saw your tweet. Thanks anyway. Well done JioStudios.' She then wrote on Instagram, 'First want to put on record that I am grateful for the love for Maya Maya. Second I saw both the lyrical videos - both Tamil and Telugu to notice that there is no mention of the singer in Tamil in the video.' She added, 'How conspicuous can JioStudios get? And would be nice if they had mentioned the lead actor Aparna as well as mentioned by Karthik Srinivas' Milliblog in Twitter. The video features her as the lead. I guess this was Jiostudios way of showing me middle finger.Thank you and duly acknowledged.' Chinmayi had shared her story about lyricist Vairamuthu and supported women who accused veteran actor Radha Ravi, for which she was trolled on social media. Recently, she was expelled from the South Indian Cine Television Artistes and Dubbing Artistes Union ostensibly for 'non-payment of subscription fees', which the singer denied. 100 Chennai corporation contractors allege graft, commissioner assures probe

The contractors alleged that they haven't been getting any work over the last four years because of clubbing of tenders as packages and bidder collusion arranged by mid-level bureaucrats. "We have voiced our grievances to the corporation commissioner and the principal chief engineer. Both of them said action would be taken to ensure a transparent tender process," said R Karunanidhi, a senior contractor. Earlier in the day, while addressing the issues of bidder collusion, cartelization, Corporation Commissioner D Karthikeyan, said that Corporation has been scrutinizing the recent package tenders. "We will probe the allegations," Karthikeyan said, responding to Express's question about allegations of favouritism in awarding contracts levelled against principal chief engineer. While the Corporation has justified packaging of tenders by saying it helps monitor work and maintain quality, contractors claimed that it was just an excuse to benefit 20 'chosen' contractors. "These 20 contractors swallow more than 80 percent of all works. What will the other 450 contractors do?" argued a contractor. Dailyhunthttps://my.desktopnexus.com/feroozshaan/

Ludhiana: Woman booked for extortion slits wrist at police station, stable

They said when she was being questioned regarding the case, she threatened to end her life. She then asked for permission to go to the washroom and slit her wrist inside, they claimed. The woman, a dancer with an orchestra group, was booked in an FIR for allegedly extorting Rs 40,000 from a man from whom she took a lift in his car. The complainant, Mohammad Iliyaas from Arjun Nagar, claimed that on the night of November 30, he was going to Jalandhar bypass from Sherpur in his car when the woman asked for a lift and he agreed. He alleged that soon the woman threatened him and demanded that he hand over all his money. He alleged that she also threatened him of implicating in a false rape case if he did. So he gave her Rs 40,000 which he had then, he told police. The police filed FIR against the woman under IPC section 386 (extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt). However, the woman claimed to the police that she has been implicated in a false case. Additional DCP-1 Gurpreet Singh denied any harassment by police and said a probe was on into the extortion case. Indian women's coach job: Manoj Prabhakar applies, Kapil Dev may take interview

It would be an honour to serve the country's national cricket team in any capacity," Prabhakar confirmed his candidature to PTI on Sunday. While Prabhakar's knowledge about the game is unquestionable, what remains to be seen is if the coach's selection panel will shortlist him for the interview. The panel will be headed by Prabhakar's former India team-mate Kapil, with other members being Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy. When told that Kapil is likely to head the panel, Prabhakar's reply was curt. "You asked me if I had applied or not and I said yes. Why did I apply? Because I feel that I can contribute with my cricketing knowledge," Prabhakar said. "There is so much talent in women's game and I think I have the experience to help the likes of Mithali Raj, Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana." Did he and Kapil ever cross paths after the controversy in 2000? Prabhakar replied: "I think that's not at all relevant in this context." While the last date for submitting CVs is December 14, there are questions being raised whether both Prabhakar and Gibbs would make the shortlist considering their involvement in match-fixing scandals. "If the committee, after doing due diligence, finds their candidature suitable, they will be shortlisted," a senior BCCI official said. "As far as controversies are concerned, Gibbs had played for Deccan Chargers in 2008 IPL and Prabhakar has coached Delhi, UP and Rajasthan in Ranji Trophy, much after the controversy. So it won't be an issue," the official said. Dailyhunthttps://www.theverge.com/users/zeevakeeno

US President claims Paris protesters chanted 'We Want Trump'

Trump ended his tweet with the assertion that Paris protesters had chanted 'We Want Trump!' Last week French President Emmanuel Macron's government reversed course and suspended a planned fuel-tax increase that sparked the protests that entered a fourth weekend on Saturday. Last weekend Trump also cited the protests in France to defend his decision to pull the U.S. out of the climate agreement reached in December 2015. Dailyhunthttps://wanelo.co/kotlashaaa

India, China could gain massive health benefits by tackling climate change: WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) report was launched at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP24) in this Polish city. It highlights why health considerations are critical to the advancement of climate action and outlines key recommendations for policy makers. The largest gains would be expected in China and India, which would generate even larger net benefits by pursuing the 1.5 degrees Celsius target rather than the two degrees target ($0.27-2.31 trillion in China and $3.28-8.4 trillion in India). The health gains of meeting the two degrees target would also significantly offset the costs in other regions, such as the European Union (seven-84 per cent) and the US (10-41 per cent). Exposure to air pollution causes seven million deaths worldwide every year and costs an estimated $5.11 trillion in welfare losses globally. In the 15 countries that emit the most greenhouse gas emissions, the health impacts of air pollution are estimated to cost more than four per cent of their GDP. Actions to meet the Paris goals would cost around one per cent of the global GDP. 'The Paris Agreement is potentially the strongest health agreement of this century,' WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said. 'The evidence is clear that climate change is already having a serious impact on human lives and health. It threatens the basic elements we all need for good health -- clean air, safe drinking water, nutritious food supply and safe shelter -- and will undermine decades of progress in global health. We can't afford to delay action any further.' The same human activities that are destabilising the earth's climate also contribute directly to poor health. The main driver of climate change is fossil fuel combustion which is also a major contributor to air pollution. 'The true cost of climate change is felt in our hospitals and in our lungs. The health burden of polluting energy sources is now so high that moving to cleaner and more sustainable choices for energy supply, transport and food systems effectively pays for itself,' WHO Director of Public Health, Environmental and Social Determinants of Health Maria Neira said. Switching to low-carbon energy sources will not only improve air quality but provide additional opportunities for immediate health benefits. For example, introducing active transport options such as cycling will help increase physical activity that can help prevent diseases like diabetes, cancer and heart disease. WHO's COP-24 Special Report: health and climate change provides recommendations for governments on how to maximize the health benefits of tackling climate change and avoid the worst health impacts of this global challenge. It describes how countries around the world are now taking action to protect lives from the impacts of climate change -- but that the scale of support remains woefully inadequate, particularly for the small island developing states, and least developed countries. Only approximately 0.5 per cent of multilateral climate funds dispersed for climate change adaptation have been allocated to health projects, the WHO said. The report calls for countries to account for health in all cost-benefit analyses of climate change mitigation. It also recommends that countries use fiscal incentives such as carbon pricing and energy subsidies to incentivise sectors to reduce their emissions of greenhouse gases and air pollutants. It further encourages parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to remove existing barriers to supporting climate-resilient health systems. The Paris Agreement, adopted in 2015, was an essential step to address climate change. It has the central goal of keeping global average temperature rise this century to well below two degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels and to as close as possible to 1.5 degrees.
