Thiruvananthapuram: UDF MLAs to continue stir

He said the UDF will continue its agitation in Assembly complex till the prohibitory orders are withdrawn from the hill shrine. On High Court observations upholding the decisions taken by the government in Sabarimala, Sivakumar said it was based on the status report submitted by the authorities concerned. The government had strongly advocated the need for continuing prohibitory orders in Sabarimala. The UDF MLAs alleged that the number of devotees had decreased hugely this season. Till last year 4 to 5 lakh devotees used to visit Sabarimala daily. The number of devotees has come down to 75,000 to 1 lakh. "The government is preventing devotees from visiting the shrine. Who will come if prohibitory orders are clamped every where ," Sivakumar asked. With the government making no efforts resolve the satyagraha by MLAs in Assembly complex, the front organisations of the UDF are getting restive. KSU took to streets on Saturday against the government over Sabarimala issue. The march taken to Secretariat turned violent with the police using water cannon and mild lathicharge to chase away the protestors. Four persons including a cop were injured in the incident. ... Toxic wasp venom could help protect humans against superbugs

Speaking about it, says Cesar de la Fuente-Nunez, an MIT postdoc who led the paper in the journal Nature Communications Biology, said that they have repurposed a toxic molecule into one that is a viable molecule to treat infections,. The venom of insects such as wasps and bees is full of compounds that can kill bacteria. Unfortunately, many of these compounds are also toxic for humans, making it impossible to use them as antibiotic drugs. As part of their immune defenses, many organisms, including humans, produce peptides that can kill bacteria and to help fight the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, many scientists have been trying to adapt these peptides as potential new drugs. The peptide that de la Fuente-Nunez and his colleagues focused on in this study was isolated from a wasp known as Polybia paulista. Subsequently, the team selected the most promising compounds to test in mice infected with Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a common source of respiratory and urinary tract infections. The researchers found that several of the peptides could reduce the infection. One of them, given at a high dose, could eliminate it completely. ... Dailyhunthttps://www.plurk.com/kotlashaaa

Kannada actor and former union minister Ambareesh passes away at 66

Kannada actor and former union minister Ambareesh passes away at 66 The resuscitation efforts continued even as he was being rushed to the hospital. "Despite all aggressive resuscitation efforts, he could not be revived," read the official statement of the hospital. The actor was declared dead at 10:15 pm on Saturday. Ambareesh was lovingly called 'Rebel Star' by his fans and the members of the film fraternity and it seemed perfectly fitting for his nonsense off-screen persona. A native of Mandya district, he was also celebrated by the Kannada film industry as Mandyada Gandu (Man of Mandya). He has acted in over 200 films in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Born on 29 May 1952, Ambareesh made his screen debut in 1972 with Naagarahaavu. The film helmed by legendary filmmaker Puttanna Kanagal also marked the debut of late matinee idol Vishnuvardhan, who achieved an overnight stardom in Karnataka with his raw performance as a hotheaded and proud youngster. Ambareesh had played the supporting role in the film and his 'aye bulbul' dialogue, an improvised catcalling, made him a sensation among the Kannada audience. It's worth noting that, while Ambareesh played Vishnuvardhan's rival in Naagarahaavu, in real life, they both shared a close friendship. After playing supporting roles in a few more films, Ambareesh became a lead actor by playing action roles. He ruled the silver screen in Karnataka through the 80s with his "angry young man" roles. He also sporadically did movies in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi film industry during his formative years. In the early 90s, Ambareesh took a plunge into politics. He had been a member of the Congress party and Janata Dal party. Ambareesh had served as Member of Parliament and was Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting in the UPA government led by Manmohan Singh. However, he resigned from the Lok Sabha membership, expressing dissatisfaction with the Cauvery Dispute Tribunal award. The actor was also Minister of Housing in the Siddaramaiah-led Karnataka government, but he later resigned. Hockey World Cup: Sardar Singh defends PR Sreejesh after recent struggles

India began their campaign by thrashing South Africa 5-0 and then drew 2-2 with against a strong Belgium side in Group C. The Manpreet Singh-led team is inching closer to a quarter-final berth with a game in hand against Canada, the fourth team in the group, on Saturday. Sardar, who retired from the game prior to the mega event, wants the Indian squad to play as a cohesive unit once they make the quarter-finals and not just depend on two-three players. "Tournaments like World Cup or Olympics come once in four years, so we have been preparing for this for a long. They (the players) know the value of such matches and how every second counts. They will not come back. "Our main match will be the quarter-finals. And on that day, it will not just be about - (PR) Sreejesh, Manpreet (Singh) we need to play as a complete unit and play to the potential. "Only energy (performances) by two or three players won't help (in the quarter-final). The four quarters that we have (in the match), we have to fully concentrate in the quarters. If we play that well, we can make it count," said Sardar who, in his prime, was among the finest half backs in world hockey. Sardar also praised current team coach Harendra Singh as one of the best in the business. "Like now we have Harendra, who is one of the best coaches. Over the last 10 years he has grown immensely (as a coach). When he was with the women's team and junior team, he had tasted success," recalled Sardar. There were talks in some quarters that the vastly experienced Sreejesh, who is the team's number one goalkeeper, has become a bit slow, but Sardar brushed them aside and said the Indian captain was one of the best in the world. "If we see the Champions Trophy, Sreejesh got the player of the tournament award. He is one of the best in the world. Experience matters a lot," he pointed out. On the personal front, Sardar informed that he was mulling opening an academy in Haryana. "I am thinking of setting up an academy in Haryana. Talks are on, let's see how it goes. I plan to play in Europe for the next couple of years," he signed off. Dailyhunthttps://speakerdeck.com/kotlashaaa

SHARP announces New J-Series air purifiers

While living in a polluted environment, our goal should be to reduce the exposure or risk from indoor pollutants, and by breathing fresh air for at least 8 to 10 hours a day, we will nourish our cardiovascular system, respiratory system, nervous system and take the pressure off our Immune System thus giving stamina and energy to fight diseases while in challenging environments. The fundamental purpose of an Air Purifier is to help in reducing toxic load entering the body thereby reducing sick days and medication. What all can it eliminate? With every season and urban condition, there are a variety of pollutants indoor and the right air purifier should be able to destroy all of them - House Dust, PM2.5/PM10, Infectious substances like fungi, mold, mites, virus etc., VOC, toxic fumes, Static electricity and dander is what the J series effectively eliminates. How much can it eliminate? SHARP has obtained third-party verifications from 31 renowned labs on the various types of pollutants and infectious substances neutralized and eliminated from room spaces within a specified time frame. How does it eliminate? SHARP J Series deploys the high-density Active Plasmacluster Technology combined with Passive Mechanical Filtration Systems (PM10 Pre Filter, Carbon Filter & H14 Grade True HEPA Filter) to trap and eliminate the harmful substances. IEC Japan and British Allergy Foundation Seal of Approval confirms the safety & effectiveness of the Purification process along with 29 other global labs. It is also proven through IEC, Japan Safety Standards of EN1822 that the SHARP Plasmacluster Technology doesn't produce any harmful Ozone during the Purification process. Speaking on the launch SHARP's National Manager, Shuvendu Mazumdar said, 'While the Indian market is flooded with OEM products sold by reputed brands, SHARP original design Made in Thailand J series offers Superior built quality, premium Electrical Safety, super high air flow with low noise as some of the added benefits.' Mentioned below are some unique benefits of SHARP J Series Air Purifiers: HAZE Mode: During winters the density of pollutants increase in the lower atmosphere. More number of pollutants enters the respiratory tract in one breath. The HAZE Mode in SHARP J Series ensures superior purification from poisonous HAZE substances like Toluene, Benzene, NOx, Sox etc using the Plasmacluster, HEPA & Carbon Filters along with strong airflow and suction. Light Sensor: Many of us like dark rooms while asleep. While the interactive panel in SHARP J Series displays the Wattage consumed, PM2.5 levels (only on J60 & J80), Odor and Dust levels it ensures that the panel lights are switched OFF as soon as the room lights are turned OFF. Thanks to the super sensitive light sensor mounted on the panel. Washable PM10 Pre Filter: House Dust, Dander, coarse dust up to 10 microns can now be trapped and washed from the Pre Filter without loading the HEPA. Charged HEPA: Deploys H14 Grade True HEPA for 99.97% efficiency, which due to charges generated inside the HEPA, particles are trapped in corners thus not clogging the air path and thus maintaining efficiency for upto 2 years. Enhanced life and efficiency for complete peace and high ROI. Spot Mode (only on J60 & J80): As we all know that the concentration of harmful substances are generally at a lower height where the furnishings, carpets etc. are housed and our children also inhale at that height. The high-density Plasmacluster emitted from the SPOT Mode enables a quicker removal of VOC, Infections and Static Charge to offer sterilized air to your loved ones. PM2.5 level Monitoring (only on J60 & J80): While the air is being taken from each corner of the room space through powerful suction, the sensor placed right at the Input duct before mechanical filtration ensures modest PM2.5 level monitoring of the purified air in the room. Global certifications for safety & effectiveness: Each and every claim made in SHARP J Series is backed by Global Certifications from 31 renowned Labs. SHARP announced its achievement of 7 crore satisfied users till April 2018 for Plasmacluster Ion Technology, the highest in the world for Air Purification. Plasmacluster Technology can best be described as the next generation of Air Purifiers. This natural purification method works by using an electrical discharge to create both Positive and Negative ions, which are then surrounded in water and then released into the air. This process can clean the air and surface from irritants including dust, fungi, viruses, pollen and mold etc. Pricing & Availability: SHARP's FP-J30M-B priced at Rs 19,250 is exclusively available through Vestige Marketing Private Limited and the FP-J40M-W, FP-J60M-W& FP-J80M-H priced at Rs 27,000, Rs 35,000 & Rs 39,000 respectively are sold through our online and offline Sales & Distribution Networks across India. ...
