When is Chhath Puja in 2017?
Moreover, some devotees also perform a prostration march while heading to the river banks. The first day of the puja, which falls on October 24 this year, is Nahay Khay, followed by Lohanda and Kharna, Chhath Puja and Usha Arghya. On this day, a holy dip in water bodies, especially river Ganga, is taken by devotees and women observe fast and only eat a single meal. The following day, fasting without water is observed from sunrise to sunset and is broken once the food is offered to the sun. On the third day, which is considered the main day of the festival, a fast without water is observed and Arghya, which means offering to the lord, is made to the setting sun. Fasting then continues throughout the night. The 36 hours fast is broken on the fourth and final day of the festival and the offerings are made to the rising sun. Chhath Puja is also known as Pratihar, Dala Chhath, Chhathi and Surya Shashthi. Dailyhunthttps://able2know.org/user/kotlashaaa/

Google's Neighbourly tackles 'super-local' queries
We are always looking for new ways to help people get the information they need about the world around them. What we have found through research is that for most people the information they need lies within a one-kilometre radius of their homes or workplaces. But getting that information is not easy. Super-local information doesn't exist on websites. In case a person joins a neighbourhood group on any other platform, he or she is usually greeted with good morning messages and things that may not be relevant. What's required is information that's local, trustworthy and comes from other people. We also found that it's becoming tougher to ask neighbours questions because people are on the move and they shift to new cities. We built Neighbourly for people to share trusted word-of-mouth information. What's the size of a neighbourhood on the app?In general, when you ask a question, it will go out to people in a one-kilometre radius. In small cities, it can go out further because there might be fewer people nearby. But, say, if you stay on the edge of Behala, your neighbourhood would be in front of you. That's where the radius varies. The radius can also be five kilometres; it all depends on where you are. The app initially launched in Mumbai in May and now it is being rolled out across India. What are some of the lessons you have learnt? After launching in beta, around a million-and-a-half people downloaded the app. And half a million among them joined the waitlist; they are from different parts of the country who wanted the app in their cities. What impressed us is the variety in the conversations that have been taking place. These are people who are new to the city as well as old-timers, across age groups and backgrounds. The questions are also timely in nature, like the ones about the rains and flooding in Mumbai earlier this year or about an LPG leak that took place outside a building. In Jaipur, students have been using the app to buy used books, find photocopying shops and seek course-related notes. On an average, questions are receiving six different answers, which is great. Also, half the questions are getting answered in less than an hour. Another interesting point is the use of local languages. The app supports eight languages and English, and the use of local languages is high. Around 20 per cent of the users also use voice to ask questions. One of our top 'neighbours', Aslam, who lives on Mira Road in Mumbai, answered around 140 questions in a short time just using voice. Google Maps (and Guides) also asks questions and some of these may overlap with the ones in Neighbourly. Will the apps share information or integrate in the future?Right now, it's all within Neighbourly. You have control over whatever you do in the app; you can even delete all the information you have supplied. Yes, there are some similarities with other apps within Google but our focus at the moment is on this one app. Will you roll out Neighbourly in other countries? All of Neighbourly has been developed in India; all of our research took place in India and the app is only available in India. We spent a lot of time understanding how people connect with their neighbourhoods, which look more and more broken and it's harder to gather information. That's a challenge that exists everywhere. I now live in Sydney. Having the ability to get information about my neighbourhood from my neighbours would be great. For the moment, our focus is on India. But we are open to taking what we've built in India and bringing that to other countries too. How many neighbourhoods can I join? You can choose three different neighbourhoods and easily switch between them. It's possible to delete and add neighbourhoods, but you must be close to the neighbourhood that you want to join. How many questions can I answer? There is no limit. As soon as you post a question, notifications are sent out to the people in your neighbourhood who can help answer that question. Can I post pictures to explain my answers? Not at the moment. Facebook has something called Recommendations.Yes, it does. But recommendations are only from people on your friend list. On Neighbourly, you can receive information from anybody in your neighbourhood, which means you will have reliable information. Are there in-app ads? None. Kushwaha exit, BJP rout spell trouble for NDA in Bihar
e, however, accepted that the party could settle for six Lok Sabha seats provided an assurance is given for at least one Rajya Sabha berth. The LJP leader also pointed out that it had been reiterated by the party's parliamentary board chairman, Chirag Paswan, so many times that the LJP should be given a respectable share and also that the seat-sharing should be decided at the earliest so that the party could get sufficient time to prepare for the general elections."We are a small party and the more time we get the better it would be in the interest of the NDA, as we would all be working to make Narendra Modi the prime minister again," the LJP leader said.He said the LJP was in no mood to wait till the last minute on the seat-sharing issue and its leadership would very soon make its stand clear publicly.Reacting to the LJP tough talk, a BJP leader said: "We believe the LJP would not create any problem as far as seat-sharing was concerned and everything on this issue would be settled amicably."He said Chirag Paswan had already held meetings with the party's national president, Amit Shah, and state in-charge Bhupender Yadav on the seat-sharing issue and given the fact that the central leadership was now free from its engagements in Assembly elections to five states, the seat-sharing issue would be decided sooner than later. Glare on private blood bank in Ranchi
A month before seven thalassemic or haemophilic children tested positive for HIV or HCV infection at Ranchi Sadar Hospital in August, Khare had reportedly suspended operations of Archi Blood Bank in Bariatu. On Thursday, she confirmed that the blood bank was indeed under scrutiny of the state drugs control directorate. "The family of the girl had met me in July. They were initially hesitant to lodge a complaint. I had directed the drugs control directorate to conduct an inquiry and suspended operations of the blood bank," she said.Deputy director of the drugs control directorate Surendra Prasad said the inquiry was on. "If the allegations of selling contaminated blood is found to be true, the blood bank concerned will lose its licence," he added.Eldest among four daughters of a private security guard, the child was detected with HIV during a routine transfusion for thalassemia at Rani Children Hospital in 2016. The private hospital allegedly refused to help her any further and advised the family to take her to state-run Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Bariatu."Not convinced that despite treatment at a private hospital my niece had got infected, we consulted a private pathological lab in Ramgarh district. Two tests turned out to be negative. But, in 2017, RIMS confirmed that my niece was indeed carrying the deadly virus in her blood," said the girl's uncle who accompanied the family to meet the health secretary.Parents of the girl were reluctant to go to police or lodge a formal complaint with the authorities until recently because they feared that the blood bank in question and others would stop selling them units in the future."After 2016, we stopped visiting Rani Children Hospital and also did not procure blood from Archi. We visited Guru Nanak Hospital and Research Centre (in Siromtoli, Ranchi) for transfusion instead. After the day care facility opened at Ranchi Sadar Hospital in July, we go there. During counselling, we were asked to lodge a formal complaint, which we did," the uncle said. The family procures HIV medicines either from RIMS for free or purchases them from the market."Her father lost his job because he remained absent from duty often after she was detected with HIV. They mortgaged land and sold off jewellery for her treatment. Strict action must be taken against people responsible for my niece's condition," the uncle added. Noticed sudden redness on your breast while feeding your baby? This may be the reason
"Mastitis is an inflammation or an infection of the breast. It is more common among lactating mothers although it can happen to regular women too, who are not pregnant or breastfeeding. In case of women who are not lactating, mastitis is relatively easier to handle since the breast is not active as they are not breastfeeding. So, the inflammation can be controlled," Dr Singhal explained. Symptoms of mastitis The symptoms of mastitis usually include swelling of breasts, redness and pain in the breast, and also high fever. What causes mastitis? A woman can get mastitis if she has had an injury or a fall. "Breast tissue has a lot of fat and an injury may also result in fat necrosis (dead or damaged breast tissue which may develop within the breast, often presenting as a lump). Fat necrosis can lead to inflammation of the breast, causing a condition called mastitis," said Dr Singhal. In the case of a woman who has just delivered and is breastfeeding, mastitis can happen if there is a lot of secretion of milk and the breast is not getting emptied at regular intervals. "That means, either the lactating woman is not feeding the baby or she is producing much more milk than the baby can consume. In such cases, the milk accumulates in the ducts of the breast. Milk is a rich culture media for bacteria. Once the milk gets accumulated, it gets infected and leads to mastitis," Dr Singhal added. How to treat mastitis Mastitis can be treated by preventing excess accumulation of milk in the breast, according to Dr Singhal. "We usually advise a woman to breastfeed after delivery and in case the baby is not able to consume the amount of milk produced, we tell the woman to empty her breast with a breast pump after each feed, after which fresh milk comes in about the next two hours," she said. Along with this, a woman diagnosed with mastitis is prescribed antibiotics to deal with fever and redness of the breast. In extreme cases, the abscess can be removed through surgery. Should a woman with mastitis breastfeed? Despite the doctors urging Pointer to stop breastfeeding, she continued to do so. She couldn't stop breastfeeding, fearing it would make her infection worse. Pointer finally had her abscess removed through surgery. Lactating mothers with mastitis can breastfeed but only after the first 24-48 hours, according to Dr Singhal. "In situations of acute inflammatory conditions of 24 to 48 hours, we usually don't allow women to breastfeed. That's because the baby, who is being breastfed, will be exposed to bacteria and also be infected. Instead, the baby is given formula milk. After 48 hours, the mother can start breastfeeding once the fever settles," she added. Fortunately, most women nowadays are usually well-informed and they know how to take care of their breasts. So, it is not more than one in every 100 woman who are diagnosed with mastitis, stated Dr Singhal. Dailyhunthttp://www.chaipaai.com/author/ziddushiddus/
