WhatsApp will soon sort Status updates from contacts based on relevance
According to Mashable, WhatsApp is testing a new feature where the upcoming status feature is going to sort the updates based on whom the user interacts the most. Whatsapp is already testing out this feature with a few iPhone users in India, Spain and Brazil. Once, the test run is successful the instant messaging platform plans on rolling this feature out to Android and Windows user. This new algorithmic sorting will be determined through a variety factor like whose statuses you view frequently, whom you message frequently etc that WhatsApp will retain this information, collect it and send it out of WhatsApp's servers. Your preferences will be saved as a part of backups. Algorithm-based sorting or changes have never been Facebook's forte. Facebook has been often criticised for trying to change sorting preferences, whether it be on Facebook or Instagram. So, it will be interesting to watch how Whatsapp users react to the upcoming changes. Apart from algorithm-driven Status listing, WhatsApp is also going to bring advertisements to the section. The feature, however, may not be rolled out immediately. '…So WhatsApp, we don't have ads in Stories. It's not available. Ads are something that's more of a future thing for WhatsApp. We remain very focused on the consumer experience there. We do have the WhatsApp Business app, which is helping businesses connect with consumers, and that's growing well but that monetisation opportunity is not available,' Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg said last month. var embedId = {jw:[],yt:[],dm:[]};function pauseVideos(vid){var players=Object.keys(embedId); players.forEach(function (key){var ids=embedId[key]; switch (key){case "jw": ids.forEach(function (id){if (id !=vid){var player = jwplayer(id); if(player.getState() === "playing"){player.pause();}}}); break; case "yt": ids.forEach(function (id){if (id !=vid){id.pauseVideo();}}); break; case "dm": ids.forEach(function (id){if (id !=vid && !id.paused){id.pause();}}); break;}});}var dmp=function(){pauseVideos(this)}function pause(){pauseVideos()}setTimeout(function(){var dmplayer = DM.player(document.getElementById("x72e5f2"), {video: "x72e5f2", height: document.body.offsetWidth * (9/16),width: document.body.offsetWidth});embedId.dm.push(dmplayer);dmplayer.addEventListener('playing', dmp);},1000); Dailyhunthttps://www.spreaker.com/user/11059613

After Pulwama, a manufactured outpouring of grief
n the face of it, the advisory seemed utterly pointless. Given the ultranationalist tenor of most television news even in normal times, the chances of any channel promoting "anti-national attitudes" after such a horrific attack on security forces were less than nil.On the contrary, the advisory provided the perfect backdrop for many a channel to indulge in unabashed warmongering. Television studios were transformed into "war rooms" and there were shrill demands for retribution and revenge against Pakistan.Heart-rending stories about the families left behind by the hapless soldiers killed while defending the unity and integrity of the country only added to the sense of national outrage. The advisory, it soon transpired, had had its desired effect. Such has been the impact of the hyper-emotional coverage of the Pulwama tragedy that every political party has come out in full support of the government in this "hour of national crisis".The Congress, living up to its reputation of being the "natural party of governance" has taken the lead. Even though the Bharatiya Janata Party and Narendra Modi himself (when in the Opposition) seized upon every terror attack to pillory previous governments, the Congress chose not to retaliate in kind.Instead, it decided to cancel all political programmes for three days. On February 15, the day after the massacre in Pulwama, Rahul Gandhi declared: "I want to make it very clear that the aim of terrorism is to divide this country and we are not going to be divided for one second. No matter how hard people try, this country and the entire Opposition are going to stand together, we are going to stand with our jawans and we are going to stand with our government."But the statesman-like approach of the Congress president, sadly, is unlikely to curb the vituperative discourse unleashed by the ruling party and its support base. The declaration of the prime minister that every Indian's "blood boils", following the terror attack has given free rein to his followers to attack Kashmiris in Jammu and other parts of the country. A new tactic adopted by them is to demand that candles are lit in every house to mourn the death of the soldiers. Those who do not can then be termed "anti-national".The manufactured outpouring of grief over Pulwama and the talk of strikes (or even war) against Pakistan has two aims. The first, and more obvious one, is to ratchet up jingoistic sentiments to help the BJP win big in the Lok Sabha elections that are round the corner. And the second is to stop us from asking questions about the Modi regime's multiple failures that are, in part, responsible for the most successful terror attack against security forces in the Kashmir Valley. That a vehicle laden with 300 kilograms of explosives could ram into a CRPF convoy in a state under the iron grip of the army is an intelligence failure of colossal magnitude. But the intelligence failure is embedded in a bigger political failure. The BJP's belief that Kashmir is just a "law and order" problem that can be crushed with strong-arm tactics sans political dialogue has simply not worked. According to a home ministry reply to Parliament earlier this month, there was a 176 per cent rise in terrorist incidents in the state between 2014 and 2018. The number of civilians killed rose by 35.71 per cent; of security personnel by 93 per cent; and of terrorists by 133.63 per cent. And the political failure stems from an ideological mindset which only values the territory of Kashmir and not its people - refusing to see that Kashmir acceded to a secular India, and has no legitimate future in a Hindu rashtra.Adil Ahmad Dar, the 22-year-old suicide bomber, left home less than a year ago. After the Pulwama massacre, his father, Ghulam Hassan Dar, said, "It is bad that people from both sides are getting killed. The politicians are playing politics and not addressing the problem. They should try to find out why the youth are picking up the gun and are ready to take such an extreme step."Till we answer that question, the endless cycle of violence in Kashmir is not going to end, no matter how many revenge attacks we may undertake... 1684651 1684650 manini.chatterjee@abp.in Dailyhunthttps://www.imdb.com/user/ur98786381/?ref_=nb_usr_prof_0
Pulwama attack effect: 2 Uttarakhand colleges say won't admit Kashmiris
Top officials of the two colleges have confirmed the development in separate letters shared with students' unions, who have been demanding expulsion of all Kashmiri students following the attack. In the Uttarakhand capital, some Kashmiri youths had also alleged that they were harassed and asked by their landlords to vacate accommodations fearing attacks on their properties in the aftermath of the Pulwama incident. On Friday, a student in Dehradun was also booked for allegedly sending WhatsApp messages supporting the Pulwama suicide attack. The Jammu and Kashmir government on Sunday had asked its liaison officers across the country to look into problems being faced by students from the state. In Jaipur, four female paramedical students of Kashmiri-origin were slapped with sedition charges after being suspended from a private institute for allegedly celebrating the terror attack by posting 'anti-national' messages on an instant messaging app, police officials had Sunday. They were students of the National Institute of Medical Science NIMS. Haryana's Swami Devi Dyal College has suspended a Kashmiri student after he allegedly posted a status on Whatsapp saying 'Jaish the best...more to come'. The student was suspended with immediate effect but no police complaint could be initiated against him as he is in Kashmir since January and has not been attending college, according to the institute's management, . In Bengaluru, one Kashmiri student was Saturday arrested for allegedly hailing the Jaish terrorist involved in the attack and three from Spurthy Group of Institutions on Sunday held on charges of sedition after they posted some messages on Facebook hailing Pakistan in respect to the Pulwama incident. Several Kashmiri students in Delhi said they were in a state of fear after reports of alleged harassment of Kashmiris following the terror attack, even as police asserted that security had been enhanced in the national capital and they would ensure the safety of all citizens. A Kashmiri student from Jamia Millia Islamia, who did not wish to be identified, said, 'Just the fact that one is a Kashmiri, irrespective of his ideology or leanings, is enough to put one's life to risk. It is happening across the country. Kashmiri students are being harassed and hounded, be it Dehradun, Ambala or Bangalore. We really fear for our security here too.' JNU activist Shehla Rashid, who hails from Kashmir, said, 'Throughout India, mobs are attacking Kashmiri students, verbally abusing them, asking for them to be expelled and filing false cases against them. The pretext being given in each case is that they said Pakistan Zindabad and even police is buying into these false claims.' Anis Ahmed, a Kashmiri student at Delhi University, said, 'We are not at all reacting on social media to any abuses which are being hurled at us even if we are being labelled as terrorists. Students who are staying on rented accommodations rather than hostels are even more scared about their safety'. The Home Ministry on Saturday issued an advisory to all states and Union territories to take measures to ensure the safety and security of Kashmiris, while The ministry's advisory had come hours after Home Minister Rajnath Singh assured an all-party meeting of doing the needful for the protection of the Kashmiri students and people who were allegedly threatened after the terrorist attack. Punjab Cricket association removes pictures of Pakistani players from Mohali stadium
The entire nation is shocked by what happened in Pulwama. Keeping the public sentiments in mind, we have taken the decision,' said Singla. The frames, around a dozen in number, are official match pictures, including that of the crowd during the 2011 World Cup semifinal between the arch rivals, besides candid shots of players, including Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, former pacer Wasim Akram and former captain and coach Javed Miandad. 'War and sports can't go hand-in-hand' 'Sportsman spirit is one thing but the association feels that war and sports cannot hand-in-hand. Everybody is disturbed with the terror attack and the association has made a humble effort to show solidarity with the nation,' said treasurer Ajay Tyagi. PCA has a rich history of hosting Pakistan on a number of occasions in all the three formats of the game. This includes one Test match way back in 2005. The ground has seen two T20 internationals involving Pakistan, which has also featured in seven ODIs, including the high-voltage 2011 World Cup semifinal. The last was attended by the top leaders of both the countries, including the then prime ministers Manmohan Singh and Yousuf Raza Gilani. The association even had former Pakistan captain and coach Intikhab Alam as its Ranji team coach for two seasons from 2004-06. He was appointed again in 2008-09 but couldn't join as he was made the manager of the Pakistan team. He was coach of the Pakistan team that won the 1992 World Cup. Earlier, on Saturday, the Cricket Club of India (CCI) in Mumbai had covered a portrait of Imran Khan in its canteen as a mark of protest. Dailyhunthttp://doodleordie.com/profile/michealratees
Explained: Why BJP and Shiv Sena have decided to stick together in Maharashtra
'The Shiv Sena and the BJP have been partners for the past 25 years,' Fadnavis said. He acknowledged that 'there have been some differences in the past,' however, 'both the parties are ideologically committed to Hindutva and that is the reason we have come together'. 'Because some parties are coming together to cause confusion and challenge the nationalist thought, it is necessary that nationalist parties come together,' Fadnavis said. Watch video: Why the BJP needs Shiv Sena in Maharashtra setTimeout(function(){(function(id){var embedTag=document.getElementById(id).children[0]; if(embedTag){var width=embedTag.offsetWidth; var height=embedTag.offsetHeight; embedTag.height=document.body.offsetWidth * (height/width); embedTag.width=document.body.offsetWidth;}})("embed-brightcove-iframe-tag-0");},1000); The nearly half-and-half seat-sharing arrangement — 25 for BJP and 23 for Shiv Sena — for the Lok Sabha polls demonstrates the realisation of each party's need for the other in a situation where doing well in Maharashtra is critical to the BJP's return to power in New Delhi. Since 1989, when they first entered into a formal alliance, the two parties have fed off each other to gain political strength. However, the Sena, after having played the dominant role in the alliance for years, had begun to feel insecure as the BJP's star rose in 2014 when it emerged as the single largest party in the Assembly elections. Left with no choice, the Sena had joined the BJP-led government as the junior partner but had chosen to criticise the BJP at every possible opportunity. Fadnavis said that a similar seat-sharing formula would apply for the Assembly elections as well. The two parties would hold talks with other allies and, 'After allotting requisite seats to other allies, both the parties will fight an equal number of seats in the Maharashtra Assembly elections,' Fadnavis said. An analysis of the electoral performance of the two parties since they joined hands shows that the alliance helped the Sena piggyback on the BJP's popularity to national prominence while helping the BJP gain greater penetration in the state. Initially, the Sena got a larger share of seats in the Assembly polls, while the BJP had the upper hand in the Lok Sabha elections. This changed gradually, and in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP contested on 24 seats to the Sena's 20. In the Assembly elections of that year, the parties contested separately, as perception grew among the Sena cadre that the BJP had been the bigger gainer from their alliance. But with the parties fighting tough battles both in the state and at the Centre, and with their main competitors, the Congress and NCP, having decided to strike an alliance, getting back together was probably their only option.
