Pallavaram Periya Eri: 6 months on, contractor busy setting up machinery

"We need a strong surface to place our plant and machinery. As the garbage is dumped on the lake bed, clearing it is bringing out water. We need to put new soil and flatten it," says Nagesh Prabhu, director of Zigma Global Environ, the firm that was given the contracted by the municipality. The contractor with the help of the local municipality has created a makeshift road and flattened the surface near the site to place their machinery. "We have completed 80 per cent of the flattening work. It is a long process as we need to clear the garbage first, then fill it with construction debris. Once we have the necessary land, the biomining will start," said Prabhu. DailyhuntDisclaimer: This story is auto-aggregated by a computer program and has not been created or edited by Dailyhunt. What killed Mahatma Gandhi?

Godse's fury was not spur-of-the moment nationalism but a product of a turbulent time—the freedom struggle, the 'ruthless surgery' by the British to create Pakistan and its formation, Partition riots and Gandhi's moral dictatorship. Tragedies of epic magnitude like the Mahatma's assassination cannot be interpreted in antipodal terms, and there is more to Godse than just Hindu vengeance. A Marathi Brahmin, he took part in anti-caste demonstrations and participated in multi-caste feasts. Armed with versatile curiosity he studied Dadabhai Naoroji, Swami Vivekananda, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, the history of ancient India, England, France, America, Russia, Socialismand Marxism. Godse's first act of religious defiance was to actively protest against the Nizam of Hyderabad—where the Razakar militia had been slaughtering and raping Hindus—which landed him in jail as a political prisoner. Once out, he started a newspaper and covered the Partition. He was traumatised by the terrible plight of Hindu refugees, and the communal violence of the 1940s. Godse's speech in court is a cant of betrayal; he wept recalling his admiration for Gandhi and what he saw as the Mahatma's subsequent betrayal of Hindus by asking for equal treatment for Muslims. He ranted against the dissemblance in Gandhi's stipulation for breaking hisfast unto death only if the attacks on Delhi mosqueswere halted while keeping silent on similar violence against Hindus in Pakistan. Ironically, the persecution of Hindus was Jawaharlal Nehru's excuse to send the Indian Army to annex Hyderabad state in September 1948. Today's wannabe politicians such as Haasan and Pragya do not comprehend the complexities of the age that made Godse a killer. He is certainly not a martyr. But he is not just an evil assassin either. Leave him be in the crypt of conflicted national memory where he faces judgment every day. Politics did not kill Gandhi. Belief did. 26 cops injured in rebel blast

round 4.45am, rebels triggered a single, medium-intensity IED blast on a kutcha or non-metalled road in hilly forested Kuchai where a joint team of around 2,000 personnel comprising CoBRA, Jharkhand Jaguar and district police had been deployed on an anti-insurgency operation. As the injured men collapsed, other members of the team retaliated with heavy firing, which lasted for 20 minutes. Almost simultaneously, the CRPF arranged 26 injured to be flown to Ranchi by chopper for treatment at Bhagwan Mahavir Medica Superspecialty Hospital. Of the 11 personnel seriously injured, eight belonged to 209 CoBRA battalion, two to Jharkhand Jaguar and one to the district police. Three of the injured were critical when they reached the Ranchi hospital but at the time of filing this report at 6pm, all were learnt to be stable. Seraikela-Kharsawan SP Chandan Sinha said the blast was the handiwork of the CPI-Maoist squad of Maharaj Pramanik, which had triggered the May 20 serial blast injuring three jawans. The SP pointed out that a day after the May 20 serial blasts at Kharsawan, they had started an extensive operation against rebels at Kharsawan and Kuchai areas. "Our troops were searching spots in the forested hills that had the possibility of housing rebel camps when the blast was triggered. In the encounter that followed the blast, we expect Maoist casualties, but the number and extent of that will be known once the area is properly combed," he said. Asked if Tuesday's and May 20's blasts were a setback, SP Sinha said, "Not at all. The anti-insurgency operation in Seraikela-Kharsawan would continue till rebels are wiped out from the district." Seraikela subdivisional police officer Avinash Kumar, who was leading a combing operation at Kuchai jungles, said they were estimating that at least seven rebels had been killed in the encounter after the blast."We fired over 200 shots. From the trail of blood in the jungle, we guess as many as seven rebels have either been killed in the encounter or were seriously injured. Their companions may have dragged the bodies taking advantage of the hilly slants," said the SDPO. Rocketman: Taron Egerton to sing his heart out in Elton John biopic

It was an extraordinary and surreal time, and that's how I wanted the film to be." Taron Egerton said, "Elton John is a music icon, but we often forget that he is also a person with a very human story to tell." "We always felt we wanted to be irreverent and make sure the audience feels like it is getting a glimpse into the life of a man who has had a notoriously turbulent time. But it is also so important to make the fans happy and make Elton likeable. This is a raw, human story, but it is also a celebration of a truly great man and what we can learn from him," Taron Egerton shared. Richard Madden plays John Reid, Elton John's love interest in the film. Madden is known for playing Robb Stark on HBO's Game of Thrones. Richard Madden is said to be in the running to play James Bond. Though the actor slammed the rumours, he was quizzed about the same at Rocketman's premiere at Cannes. Jamie Bell plays Bernie Taupin, Elton John's long term collaborator. Taron Egerton first rose to international fame with the Kingsman franchise.
