Houthis take control over 20 military positions inside Saudi
Yemen has been engulfed in a civil war since 2015. Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi's government, backed by Saudi-led coalition, is in violent conflict with Houthi forces loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh. Notably, Houthi's are supported by Saudi-foe Iran. The recent attack is likely to further deteriorate the condition in the already volatile region. The raids have come weeks after Houthis claimed responsibility for drone attacks on Saudi oil facilities last week, calling it the "largest military operation" conducted by militants since the start of the armed conflict in 2015. The attack caused a fire and some minor damage to one of the pumps of Saudi Aramco's cross-country pipelines. The company has stated that it has halted crude oil traffic via the pipeline as a precautionary measure. In retaliation, the Saudi-led coalition launched airstrikes in war-torn Yemen on Thursday in which at least six people lost their lives while several others, including two Russian women, were wounded. The coalition warplanes which hit the residential area at the intersection of Rabat and Rakas streets in Sanaa were being controlled by the Houthis, Sputnik reported. ... Sensex tanks over 300 points after RBI policy outcome; financial stocks drag
On the other hand, Asian Paints, Coal India, HUL, PowerGrid, HCL Tech and Infosys were trading up to 2 per cent higher. According to traders, investor sentiment took a hit after the RBI lowered its benchmark lending rate to nearly a nine-year low of 5.75 per cent. Slashing benchmark lending rates for the third time this year, the RBI cut its repo rate by 0.25 per cent on Thursday and said its future monetary policy stance will be more accommodative. The central bank also lowered the economic growth forecast for the current fiscal to 7 per cent due to slowdown in domestic activities and escalation in global trade war. "RBI reduced repo rate by 25 bps as expected. The change in stance to 'accommodative' was a bit of a surprise. Debt markets will take this as a significant positive move though most of the rate cut cycle is probably over," said Suvodeep Rakshit, Sr. Economist, Kotak Institutional Equities. "The tone of the RBI policy was dovish and highlights the concerns on growth. We maintain our call for another 25 bps rate cut in August factoring in the benign inflation trajectory and the growing concerns on growth," Rakshit added. On the currency front, the rupee was trading 4 paise lower at 69.30 against the US dollar. 'Marry' a local for a day in Amsterdam
'The idea is that tourists not only feed from the city, but can also build a connection with people who live here,' said Jona Rens, founder of Wed and Walk, the shop-cum-chapel where mock weddings take place. Wed and Walk has been conducting mock weddings for tourists since 2015, reported The Guardian . Wednesday, June 5 2019, witnessed mass fake weddings between tourists and Amsterdammers. Visitors bid for a listed bride/groom starting from €100. The brides walked down the red aisle with fake flowers, the 'couple' exchanged thrift-store rings and the ceremony was sealed with a hug rather than a kiss. The local then introduced his or her 'spouse' to a new aspect of life in Amsterdam on the one-day 'honeymoon'. Friends and family of tourists were also welcome to accompany them as long as the bid money covered the expenses. A part of the bid money was also donated to a charity chosen by the bride or groom. Overtourism has grown to be a real problem for Amsterdam. Last year, 21 million tourists visited the city. In an attempt to handle the massive amount of tourists, campaigns like 'Enjoy and Respect' was started in 2018, which started fining tourists for creating nuisances in public. The Untourist Guide took a fresh approach to the overtourism problem. 'Influx of people from all over the world can be a very exciting opportunity,' said Elena Simons, social innovator. 'Let's do something with all that energy, all that diversity - something good for mankind and enjoyable at the same time.' 'Tourism can be so much more than grabbing a selfie at the canals,' said Nico Mulder of amsterdam&partners. 'I'm not saying nobody will go to the Van Gogh Museum or Anne Frank House any more, but it's really positive to see tourists and Amsterdam citizens more as one, instead of opponents of each other.' ... Busted: Most common myths around sleep
"Dispelling myths about sleep promotes healthier sleep habits which, in turn, promote overall better health," she added. To reach this conclusion, researchers reviewed more than 8,000 websites to identify the 20 most common assumptions about sleep. With a team of sleep medicine experts, they ranked them based on whether each could be dispelled as a myth or supported by scientific evidence, and on the harm that the myth could cause. Another common myth relates to snoring. While snoring can be harmless, it can also be a sign of sleep apnea, a potentially serious sleep disorder. The authors encourage patients not to dismiss loud snoring, but rather to see a doctor since this sleep behaviour may lead to heart stoppages or other illnesses. The study authors also found sufficient evidence that, despite beliefs to the contrary, drinking alcoholic beverages before bed is indeed unhealthy for sleep. "Sleep is important to health, and there needs to be greater effort to inform the public regarding this important public health issue," noted study senior investigator Girardin Jean Louis. Robbins and her colleagues suggest creating a consistent sleep schedule and spending more time, at least seven hours, asleep.
