The book launch took place at Crossword in Pune. The writers of the book have been inspired by 'Divya Swapna' (meaning day dream). Vats has been working with education closely and is the president of Early Childhood Association. Vinitha is an established author and journalist and has written more that 23 books for children, including ICSE and CBSE textbooks. Not only can these ideas influence today's classrooms or teachers but can also affect the thinking of the parents. We hope that Badheka's work will be acknowledged and want him to receive a Padma Shri for the same. Mahesh Balakrishnan, IB Board Developer based in Delhi, was the chief guest at the launch. He said, 'Gijubhai has not received the acknowledgement he deserves. Through this book, his ideas about the joy of learning and his reflective, intuitive and empathetic nature is highlighted.' ICC CWC'19: Check out last 5 ODI results between India-New Zealand
Earlier in the year, the Indian side visited New Zealand and played the five ODIs and three T20s. The team emerged victorious in the ODI series by 4-1. They lost T20 series by 2-1. Ambati Rayudu, who took retirement from all forms of cricket, was the highest run-scorer in the bilateral ODI series. Rayudu amassed 190 runs with an average of 63.33. Shikhar Dhawan, who was ruled out of the World Cup due to a thumb injury, was the second highest-scorer just runs behind of Rayudu. Opening batsman Rohit Sharma was the third-highest scorer for the team with 169 runs. The 32-year-old has 647 runs from eight innings in the World Cup so far. He is the only batsman who has scored five centuries in the ongoing tournament and he broke Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara record for scoring the most centuries in a single edition of the World Cup. Sharma has been providing a steady start to the Indian innings and he has the ability to accelerate when required. In the bowling department, Trent Boult was the highest wicket-taker and clinched 12 wickets. He was the only New Zealander in the top-five wicket-takers tally. Indian pacer Mohammad Shami and spinner Yuzvendra Chahal both bagged 9 wickets each for India. Chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav manages to take eight wickets while fast bowler Bhuveneshwar Kumar dismissed seven wickets. In the previous clash between the Men in Blue and Kiwis at the World Cup warm-up match, the latter won by six wickets. Boult took four Indian wickets in that game. The league match between India-New Zealand was washed out due to rain. India have won the World Cup twice (1983 and 2011) whereas New Zealand are yet to lift the trophy. The Men in Blue finished the group stage at the top of the standings with 15 points, whereas New Zealand finished fourth with 11 points from nine matches each. India entered the semi-final with winning momentum behind their back as they won their last two matches. On the other hand, the Kiwi side have lost their last two matches and they would look to change their fortunes around. ... The decline of the Congress: lessons from Mughal history
Given his administrative inexperience, whether Rahul Gandhi fits in with the character of Ahmad Shah is for the readers to decide. However, naivety of leadership and incapacity arguably bind Rahul Gandhi's Congress to the Mughal dynasty after Aurangzeb's demise. In his four-part series, Fall of the Mughal Empire, Sarkar noted that "The dismemberment of the Mughal Empire was immediately preceded in each of its lost provinces by the exceptionally long rule of some exceptionally capable viceroy, who completed his work by founding a dynasty and transmitting his power to his own family". In Bengal, Murshid Quli Khan ruled from 1710 to 1727; in the Deccan, Nizam-ul-mulk Asaf Jah, first appointed to vice-royalty in 1713, ruled till 1748. Similarly, Oudh had Saadat Ali Khan for a long period. One common thread among these regional leaders was their inclination to transfer power to their own families.Look back and learnThe Congress finds itself on the same pages of history in this context. The chief ministers of most Congress-ruled states - political stalwarts with established bases - have introduced their families to elections. Nakul Nath, Vaibhav Gehlot and Raninder Singh were all fielded in the Lok Sabha polls. The central leadership being fragile, there is always the threat of a regional split. Incidentally, the Congress had suffered splits in the past too: the Swaraj Party broke away in 1923; another defection took place in 1969 under K. Kamaraj, while Mamata Banerjee formed the All India Trinamul Congress in 1998. However, despite such desertions, the Congress remained relatively unscathed. That is because unlike today, it had a strong central leadership. The Bharatiya Janata Party is riding the wave that the Congress rode in the 1960s and the 1970s. Apart from the stark ideological differences, both outfits function in different ways. The Congress gained its ground from the national movement, with the majority of its supporters rooting for the charismatic leadership of Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi. The BJP, on the other hand, is cadre-based and dependent on the ground presence of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. The BJP, much like the Congress, has strong regional leaders. However, they are not loyal to a particular person or a family, but have a common ideology. Sarkar wrote that "The Mughal Empire, established in 1556, had united much of the Indian continent under one sceptre, given it a uniform civilization whose conquering light had penetrated beyond the bounds of that empire, and on the whole promoted the general happiness of the people in a degree unapproached except in the mythical past." The Indian National Congress has played a similar role in the unification and independence of this country. We might be witnessing the end of the party to which we owe the nation's independence. Time will tell whether this decline and the vacuum that is created as a result in national politics will be catastrophic for Indian democracy. 1690294 DailyhuntDisclaimer: This story is auto-aggregated by a computer program and has not been created or edited by Dailyhunt. Families in Food: The kulfi shop in Old Delhi that's been around 113 years
They sold kulfis in three flavours — kewra, rabri, and mango — for seven-eight months every year, between Holi and Diwali, and then returned to their village. After his marriage, Kuremal moved to Old Delhi. His son, Mohanlal, joined him after high school and thus came the name Kuremal-Mohanlal Kulfiwale, says Sunil, 53, eldest son of Mohanlal. His other son, Anil, 50, says during the Emergency, the milk supply was cut short, so they made mango kulfi instead. Every year, Kuremal Mohan Lal Kulfi Wale put up a stall during Ramlila at Parade Ground, Delhi Cantonment, a practice started by Sunil's grandfather. Former prime ministers Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee have been their customers. Today, Mohanlal, 78, occasionally sits at the shop, and his four sons — Sunil, Anil, Sanjay, and Manish — run the show. 'In 1980, my father introduced stuffed kulfis, which were made by cutting the fruits hollow, blending their pulp with rabri and sugar, and putting the composition back into the fruits,' Sunil says. 'Stuffed mango and pomegranate are the bestsellers, but we prepare stuffed kulfis with almost every fruit for pre-orders. 'Since then, we've added many flavours which were unheard of then — like jamun, paan, falsa, imli to name a few. In 2019, we've introduced aaru (peach) fruit kulfi.' The stuffed kulfis (mango, pomegranate, orange, apple) are priced at Rs 200 per piece, while the milk-based and milk-free (julpeps) kulfis, at Rs 60. 'When I started working with my father, we sold kulfis for Rs 7,' recalls Sunil. Mohanlal's youngest son Manish, 43, sits at the small shop, which is 200 m away from the original spot where Kuremal and his uncle sold kulfis. Their products, he says, are 100 per cent natural and hand-made, and consistent in quality. At any given time, their staff comprises 50-60 workers; the number increases during summer and the wedding season. The major source of their revenue comes from bulk orders for celebrity weddings and birthday celebrations, including the weddings of Bollywood actors Twinkle Khanna and Akshay Kumar in 2001, and of the daughter of Pramod Mittal (brother of Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal) in Venice in 2011. From Italy, Mauritius to Thailand, demand pours in from all over. With recent outlets in Bengali Market and another coming up in Hauz Khas this month, plans are afoot to expand the business to other states. Gaurav Juyal is an intern with The Indian Express.
