'Naya Pakistan': Twitter reacts to belly dancers performing at investment meet

"When General Doctrine Chief Economist tries to lure investors into the Pakistan Investment Promotion Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan with belly dancers....," the journalist captioned the post. A man was seen taking a snap of the belly dancers. As the video went viral, social media users were quick to react with one user terming it the ''Naya Pakistan way''. "Wooing investors in ''Naya Pakistan'' way. From selling hair, buffaloes, donkeys, dogs, pig, kapoorey to hosting belly-dancing "conferences", Pakistan is clearly thinking out of the box to fix the economy," a Twitter user said. Another Twitter user by the name of Omar Baloch said, "Pakistanis have nothing else to show to promote investment, except belly dancing." The viral video comes even as Pakistan's economic situation continues to be in doldrums and countries such as China, the UAE and Saudi Arabia have given bailout packages to the cash-strapped country in a bid to tackle its ballooning balance-of-payments crisis. The annual fiscal deficit of Pakistan rose to the highest in the last three decades at 8.9 per cent for the financial year 2018-19. The fiscal deficit is a difference between revenues and expenditures of the federal government. The figure which depicts the dire situation of Pakistan's economy coincided with the completion of Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government which completed one year in power. Mr Khan, who was elected on an anti-corruption plank and a pledge to end austerity measures, vowed to improve the depleting economic situation of the cash-strapped country. In fact, the opposite has happened. In reality, prices of gas and oil products and electricity in Pakistan have risen considerably, burning a hole in common man''s pocket. In May, the International Monetary Fund approved a bailout package of USD 6 billion for Pakistan. The cash-strapped country has received the first tranche of the loan worth $ 991.4 million from the global moneylender. ... New York Fashion Week 2020: Glamour and pop-art energy rule first day

Siriano explained to AFP that he was inspired by modern pop artists, in particular Ashley Longshore, known for her vibrant, colorful paintings, some of which were on display Saturday. During the show, the New Orleans artist put the finishing touches to large portraits of Lady Gaga, Frida Kahlo and Laverne Cox. Siriano said he wanted to celebrate 'powerful women' through 'the use of playful color, texture, humor, but also refinement. I wanted that to be throughout the whole collection.' 'We wanted it to feel pretty luxe, glamorous, kind of feminine and romantic,' he said. 'I hope there's more, but I think we're doing a good job.' A model presents a creation from the Ralph Lauren collection during New York Fashion Week. ( REUTERS ) Energetic young designer Christopher John Rogers won a standing ovation for his collection, which brought him to tears. From Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 'CJR' is part of an emerging generation of African-American designers, whose ranks include Virgil Abloh and Kerby Jean-Raymond, behind the label Pyer Moss. This season the 25-year-old was inspired by the clowns of Italian cinema, Gauguin's paintings and 1920s silhouettes, among other things. The first appears in his ultra-puffy dresses and ruffles, the second in the use of pleated cotton capturing a Caribbean style, and the third in pencil skirts and cocktail dresses. 'It's about addressing all those things at the same time and not feel that we have to be one thing,' Rogers said. 'We're kind of all of these things.' The cosmopolitan designer has also mixed materials -- from lycra to canvas used for cloth bags, through wool or linen. 'We're self-funded,' said Rogers of his choice of materials compared to those used in high-end pret-a-porter. 'Whatever we can find, we try and make it the most amazing version of that thing.' A model presents a creation from the Ralph Lauren collection during New York Fashion Week. ( REUTERS ) Energy was also on display at Longchamp, which presented at the Lincoln Center. For its Spring/Summer 2020 collection, the French fashion house associated with the world of travel instilled a touch of the futurism of the 70s and 80s, shown Friday in a much more pronounced version by Jeremy Scott. There were short silk dresses, long skirts playing with transparency, and a color palette including turquoise, apricot and plum. On their feet the models wore Spartan-style sandals that tie to below the knee, and a variety of colorful Star Trek-style boots. Known for its trendy, timeless style, Khaite House surprised with its bold newness. With many layers and a mix of materials and prints, the collection tended towards romanticism, inspired by the family home of the grandparents of Catherine Holstein, Khaite's creative director. There are 'flashes from my childhood in terms of curtains and wallpapers. There's a sense of playfulness too with the collaboration with Swarovski that I haven't explored before,' Holstein told AFP. 'I'm innately feminine but I'm also practical and I think I need a balance,' she said. 'I shift a lot and I really want to bring that to the collection as well. To enhance the femininity and to stay away (from) being sweet and pretty, it really needs the balance and structure.' Sukhbir congratulates new PUCSC president

Badal said, 'It is a mandate of the students of PU. There are many students from Punjab here in the university and they have given a verdict on the current Punjab policies of the Congress government,' adding that he himself was a student of the university for four years in 1980s. Talking to HT, Majithia said, 'The reason for the SOI's win after four years is that the campus leaders worked as a team, forgetting the group politics. All of them worked hard and reached out to the students, he said. As for the NSUI's winning the other posts, Majitiha said the Students for Society (SFS) fielded its candidate only on the presidential post, which helped NSUI win. Meanwhile, Chaudhary said the youth of PU had shown faith in the SAD's policies by electing him as the president. Romana said the PU's verdict will definitely have an impact on the state politics. 'The university students have shown that they are disillusioned by the policies of Congress,' he said. SOI president Parminder Brar and other senior leaders Simranjit Dhillon, Vicky Middukhera, Rashpal Hakuwala, Meet Jatana and Piyush Anand Bawa were present on the occasion. The couple dated in early 2000s and worked together in Kyun Ho Gaya Na. Vivek faced the entire country's ire when he shared a meme about Aishwarya and her previous relationships. The meme was divided in three panels which showed pictures of Aishwarya with him, another with Salman and a third with her husband Abhishek and daughter Aaradhya. The captions for each of the three images read, 'opinion poll', 'exit poll' and 'result', respectively. The meme was originally shared by someone else on Twitter, but Vivek picked it up, writing, 'Haha! Creative! No politics here just life!' Several celebrities bashed Vivek for his tweet. Anupam Kher, Sonam Kapoor, Urmila Matongkar called it 'disgusting and classless.' The tweet was also condemned by the National Commission of Women as 'misogynistic'. 'I would want to meet the Women's Commission... I have been working on women empowerment since the past 10 years, and I don't just talk about it on social media... I am very careful as far as respect for women is concerned. I personally feel that there's no disrespect (in what happened). I would meet the Women's Commission and if they explain to me what is wrong in it, I would apologise,' Vivek had told the media. Happy birthday Akshay Kumar: No one does family time better than him and here are 10 pics to prove it While Vivek earlier did not see anything wrong with the tweet, he later apologised for it. 'Sometimes what appears to be funny and harmless at first glance to one, may not be so to others. I have spent the last 10 years empowering more than 2000 underprivileged girls, I can't even think of being disrespectful to any woman ever,' he wrote as an apology, adding, 'Even if one woman is offended by my reply to the meme, it calls for remedial action. Apologies, tweet deleted.' Vivek was last seen in Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The film was a biography on the country's prime minister in which Vivek played the lead. Abhishek was last seen in Anurag Kashyap's Manmarziyaan and will soon be seen in the second season of Amazon Prime Video's Breathe with Amit Sadh. function getAndroidVersion(ua) {ua = (ua || navigator.userAgent).toLowerCase(); var match = ua.match(/android\\s([0-9\\.]*)/);return match ? match[1] : false;}; var versions='4.2.2'; var versionArray=versions.split(',');var currentAndroidVersion=getAndroidVersion();if(versionArray.indexOf(currentAndroidVersion)!=-1){var blocks = document.getElementsByTagName('blockquote'); for(var i = 0; i < blocks.length; i++){blocks[i].innerHTML = '';}}DailyhuntDisclaimer: This story is auto-aggregated by a computer program and has not been created or edited by Dailyhunt. It thrashed England by 251 runs in the opening test at Edgbaston, the second test at Lord's was drawn before England won at Headingley by one wicket to level the series 1-1."Bitterly disappointed," England captain Joe Root said, "to come so close to taking it to The Oval is quite hard to take."Pacer Pat Cummins finished with 4-43 off 24 overs. He bowled Jason Roy (31) in the 18th over of the day, knocking over his off stump, and then claimed the key wicket of Ben Stokes, hero at Headingley with Leach. The England all-rounder got an inside edge and was well caught behind the wicket by Paine. Stokes, who had scored just one, did not wait for a decision from the umpire and walked as Australia appealed. That left England in deep trouble on 74-4.Joe Denly brought up his half-century after lunch with a crisp off drive off Cummins. It was his sixth boundary and took him to 53 off 112 balls. He fell without adding further to his score when he was caught out by the bounce from a delivery from Nathan Lyon (2-51) and offered a catch to Marnus Labuschagne at short leg.Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler came together and steadily took the score to 138-5 after 53 overs as Paine turned to part-time bowlers Labuschagne and Travis Head in the hope of breaking their concentration. But it was Starc (1-46) that made the next breakthrough when he won an lbw verdict against Bairstow for 25. That left England 138-6, with Australia needing just four more wickets to retain the Ashes.Australia thought it had removed Overton with the first ball after tea as Labuschagne grasped a catch fielding close to the bat but the ball had hit the body.Buttler misjudged the line off Hazlewood (2-31) and was bowled leaving the ball. His removal for 34 left England 172-7 and needing a rearguard from the tail.Jofra Archer did not last long, scoring only one before being trapped lbw by Lyon with a ball that kept low.Overton formed a stubborn ninth-wicket partnership with Leach, taking the score to 195-8 off 85 overs, with 20 remaining in the day.Australia was unhappy with what they perceived as time-wasting tactics from the England pair but Leach's resistance came to an end after Paine turned to Labuschagne's leg-spin.Leach offered a simple catch to Matthew Wade close in.The game ended when Hazlewood trapped Overton lbw, ending his stubborn innings of 105 balls for 21. The England man called for a review but the decision stood. DailyhuntDisclaimer: This story is auto-aggregated by a computer program and has not been created or edited by Dailyhunt.
