'Nivasa' pays homage to the craftsmanship of cane weaving

The world reveres our age-old arts and I have tried to discover sustainable design techniques and translate that into our collections." Anchored firmly in the concept of sustainability, the collection pays homage to the artisanal craftsmanship of cane weaving. Featuring consoles, seating, day-bed and four-poster beds-each piece is thoughtfully fashioned using time-honoured techniques of manufacturing. A creative embodiment of the 'Make in India' movement, every piece from the collection can be tailored down to the last detail-from materials, finishes, upholstery fabrics to framework (single/double weave patterning). "It is of paramount importance to give back to nature. Rattan is harvested without harming the trees. From source to soil, cane furniture is not only eco-friendly but also gives back to the environment," adds Rohit. Researchers identify speed key factor in most car crashes

"For insurance companies using this telematics data to assess who is a good risk and who isn't, our suggestion based on the data is to look at speed, at people driving too fast," said Stefan Steiner, a statistics professor in Waterloo's Faculty of Mathematics. Data for the study came from insurance companies in Ontario and Texas with clients who had on-board diagnostic devices installed in their vehicles. In the first study of its kind, researchers initially analysed the data to identify 28 crashes based on indicators such as rapid deceleration. Each vehicle in those crashes was then matched with 20 control vehicles that had not been in crashes but were similar in terms of other characteristics, including geographic location and driving distance. When the crash cases were compared to the control cases using a sophisticated penalty system for the four kinds of bad driving, speeding emerged as the key difference between them. "Some of the results are no surprise, but prior to this, we had a whole industry based on intuition. Now it is formulated - we know aggressive driving has an impact," said Allaa (Ella) Hilal, an adjunct professor of electrical and computer engineering. Steiner cautioned that the study was limited by several unknowns, such as different drivers using the same vehicle, and more research is needed to verify the results. But he said the analysis of telematics data could eventually revolutionise the insurance industry by enabling fairer, personalised premiums based on actual driving behaviour, not age, gender or location. Hilal believed the data could also make roads safer by giving drivers both tangible evidence and financial incentives to change. "Having this information exposed and understood allows people to wrap their minds around their true risks and improve their driving behaviours. We are super pumped about its potential," she said. ... 'Lionel Messi can leave Barca at end of season', says president Josep Maria Bartomeu "It's the same case as with the final contracts that Xavi, (Carles) Puyol and (Andres) Iniesta had. 'Naya Pakistan': Twitter reacts to belly dancers performing at investment meet

"When General Doctrine Chief Economist tries to lure investors into the Pakistan Investment Promotion Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan with belly dancers....," the journalist captioned the post. A man was seen taking a snap of the belly dancers. As the video went viral, social media users were quick to react with one user terming it the ''Naya Pakistan way''. "Wooing investors in ''Naya Pakistan'' way. From selling hair, buffaloes, donkeys, dogs, pig, kapoorey to hosting belly-dancing "conferences", Pakistan is clearly thinking out of the box to fix the economy," a Twitter user said. Another Twitter user by the name of Omar Baloch said, "Pakistanis have nothing else to show to promote investment, except belly dancing." The viral video comes even as Pakistan's economic situation continues to be in doldrums and countries such as China, the UAE and Saudi Arabia have given bailout packages to the cash-strapped country in a bid to tackle its ballooning balance-of-payments crisis. The annual fiscal deficit of Pakistan rose to the highest in the last three decades at 8.9 per cent for the financial year 2018-19. The fiscal deficit is a difference between revenues and expenditures of the federal government. The figure which depicts the dire situation of Pakistan's economy coincided with the completion of Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government which completed one year in power. Mr Khan, who was elected on an anti-corruption plank and a pledge to end austerity measures, vowed to improve the depleting economic situation of the cash-strapped country. In fact, the opposite has happened. In reality, prices of gas and oil products and electricity in Pakistan have risen considerably, burning a hole in common man''s pocket. In May, the International Monetary Fund approved a bailout package of USD 6 billion for Pakistan. The cash-strapped country has received the first tranche of the loan worth $ 991.4 million from the global moneylender. ...
