Pakistan PM Khan's ex-wife Reham Khan wins defamation case against news channel

'The most serious allegation that he made was to claim that our client had colluded with her ex-husband's political rivals, the Pakistan Muslim League, and accepted a substantial payment from or on behalf of its leader, Shehbaz Sharif, in return for writing her autobiography,' said Alex Cochrane from Hamlins LLP, who represented Reham in the Royal Courts of Justice in London. 'Dunya TV has now made a full and unequivocal public apology to our client and it has accepted that she never received any payments from Shehbaz Sharif or anyone in the Pakistan Muslim League for her book. Dunya TV has also given an undertaking not to repeat these false allegations about our client and they have paid her substantial damages and all her legal costs,' he said. The court heard that during the telecast last year, Reham, a journalist and broadcaster, was also likened to a historical Pakistani female figure known as 'Budhan Bai', who was a well-known courtesan, as part of a series of 'slurs' upon her reputation. Dunya TV, a 24-hour Urdu language news and current affairs television channel which has a licence to broadcast in the UK, said that it accepts that the allegations made by the guest commentator, Sheikh Rasheed, were 'wholly untrue'. 'The Defendant (Dunya News Limited) accepts that there was and is no truth in the allegations advanced during the broadcast and is happy to set the record straight and apologise to the Claimant (Reham),' notes the court order. Reham had also complained to the UK's media watchdog, the Office of Communications (OFCOM), in the wake of the broadcast last year. In February this year, that complaint had been upheld by OFCOM. At the conclusion of her legal battle, the mediaperson whose controversial memoir titled 'Reham Khan' made references to her marriage to Imran Khan before their divorce in 2015, said she felt 'fully vindicated'. She said in a statement: 'I am glad that justice has finally prevailed. It took me a long legal battle to prove my innocence and the fact that I was victimised and defamed by Dunya and several other news channels for business and political gains'. 'It's hurtful that sections of Pakistani media and politicians linked with PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf) made false allegations knowing well that these allegations lacked any truth. I hope that my victory and vindication serves as a catalyst for ethical journalism and honest politics in Pakistan.' ... Dengue strikes terror

Don't you see I am alone. Please wait," the nurse was heard shouting at a man who approached her to ask when his wife would get medicines.Nurse-in-charge Ram Rekha Singh gave medical advice to patients getting discharged. To a Jharkhand Jaguar jawan, she said: "You had both chikungunya and dengue. You have to take care for a month to fully recover from dengue and one full year to fully recover from chikungunya. Keep your body covered. Use a mosquito net when you sleep and mosquito repellent cream when you venture out. Take plenty of water and eat food with less spice and oil," she said.A resident of Hindpiri, Mohammed Shahjad said as many as 10 of his neighbours were being treated for dengue at RIMS at present. "My wife Husna Ara is among them. She is on the floor," he said. Nurse-in-charge Singh said Samna Khatoon from Chanho was admitted on Wednesday. "It is the first dengue case from Chanho. It appears that dengue has reached there from Gumla," she said.A RIMS employee said this year so far they had treated more than 300 dengue patients while more were coming. "As many as five were released on Wednesday but seven new patients were admitted. During 2013 to 2018, the dengue patient count ranged between 50 and 250. Look at the spurt this year," the employee said. There are more dengue cases in Ranchi now than in East Singhbhum. The number of dengue positive cases till November 12, 2019, in East Singhbhum, is 293, but no casualty has been reported yet.The dengue death that occurred on Wednesday was that of Izhar Gaddi, 35, a resident of Doranda, who was admitted to Medanta Hospital on November 9 after his family members decided they were not happy with his treatment at RIMS, where he was admitted on November 8. Ranchi civil surgeon Dr Vijay Bihari Prasad said he could not confirm the death as he was out of town. A doctor of RIMS in the medicine department, Rashmi Sinha, said there had been a drastic change in the climate of the state. "Earlier, by November, people wore sweaters. Japan's Kore-eda recreates Dickensian saga in Shoplifters

With English subtitles, the film will be a delight to watch. I quite enjoyed it when I first saw it at Cannes, and my second viewing at Chennai the other evening was as enjoyable as my first. Kore-eda recreates Dickensian characters. His Fagin is Osamu Shibata (played to unbelievable perfection by Lily Franky) and his little Oliver Twist is Shota (Jyo Kairi). Together, they shoplift and merrily so, piling up their loot in their ramshackle house, where their makeshift family lives. The man and the boy have a magical way of communicating with each other; they use sign language and subtle nods to warn each other about cameras in the shops where they venture for their sly scams. A scene from Kore-eda's Shoplifters. One bitterly cold evening, Osamu and Shota find a little girl (Miyu Sasaki) shivering, and they bring her home, where the man's wife, Nobuyo (Sakura Ando), cribs about having to feed an extra mouth. But when she sees bruises on the girl's body, Nobuyo takes pity and decides to have her. There are others in the house: Aki (Mayu Matsuoka), who goes to college but works as a hostess in her spare time. But the substantial part of the group's income comes from Grandma (Late Kirin Kiki), who is stealing her late husband's pension and freeloading off the man's son from a second marriage. But what comes as a shocker early on in the movie is that this cosy group of men and women are not a family in the real sense of the term. While Osamu and Nobuyo are actually husband and wife, the rest live with them, and are not related to one another. It is a group that has come together for an economic convenience. While Grandma's money comes in handy, she herself finds the company of others reassuring (I do not want to die a lonely death). The rest of them benefit as well from this marvellous arrangement. Spider-Man Far From Home movie review: A passable postscript to Avengers Endgame, but a marvellous ode to Iron Man But then, this is too good to last forever, and like the pile of oranges that slips off the basket in a store, Osamu's arrangement begins to develop cracks. Beneath a great plot, Shoplifters is sad reflection of modern-day Japanese society, where employment opportunities are shrinking, and where economic deprivation stares in your face. The film is a brutal look at what families are facing. In an interview, Kore-eda had said that members of a family were not always, and no longer, bound by love, affection and a sense of kinship. He added that the inspiration for the movie came from news reports about how family members were cheating, abusing and even killing one another. So, it was crime that often tied them together. Kore-eda's work apart from being a magnificent study of interpersonal relationships in the family he creates - where there is a trace of kindness and kinship - is also a comment on the labour condition in Japan -- whose inhumanness and rank cruelty were driving men and women towards a path of misery and ruin. Shoplifters is a great effort, and is narrated without any intrusive music - a horrible feature that mars most Indian films. Not to be missed this weekend. IND vs BAN 1st Test: India reach 493-6 at stumps against Bangladesh on day 2

India were 493 for six at stumps in response to Bangladesh's 150 all out on Thursday. Ravindra Jadeja, on 60, and Umesh Yadav, on 25, were at the crease promising more fireworks. Jadeja celebrated with his trademark sword dance when he reached his half-century in 72 balls, while Yadav smashed three sixes in his 10-ball blitz. Left-hander Jadeja kept up the attack after a 123-run partnership with Agarwal for the fourth wicket. Agarwal also made 190 with Ajinkya Rahane, who shot 86, after the hosts resumed the day on 86 for one. Rahane became paceman Abu Jayed's fourth victim of the innings soon after the tea break. But Agarwal relentlessly hit the bowlers to the boundary after completing his second 200-plus score in eighth Test appearance since making his debut last year in Melbourne. His previous best was 215 in the first Test against South Africa last month. Agarwal's marathon knock eased Indian nerves after skipper Virat Kohli was out for a duck -- his 10th in 83 Tests -- in the first session. Abu, who sent opener Rohit Sharma packing for six on Thursday, got Cheteshwar Pujara (54) caught at gully soon after the overnight batsman completed his fifty with a boundary. But it was Kohli's wicket that briefly brought joy to Bangladesh after they successfully reviewed an lbw appeal rejected by the umpire. Replays indicated the ball would have hit leg stump. India's pace bowlers, led by Mohammed Shami who took three wickets, dealt with Bangladesh on the opening day of the two-match series after the tourists won the toss but chose to bat first on a green wicket. Brief Score: Bangladesh 1st innings: 150 all out in 58.3 overs. India 1st innings: 493 for 6 in 114 overs (Mayank Agarwal 243, Ajinkya Rahane 86; Abu Jayed 4/108). ... Now, creepy web developer wants world under watch

"The Insecam project allows people to travel virtually by watching any country online without a prism of mass media," he said. It was also clear through the interaction that he did not comprehend the basic tenets of privacy and that he sought validation for his actions from responses he receives from a few users. The developer explained, "I will quote anonymously one of the messages received: I always follow the two regions of the Czech Republic and Austria. (sic) I was able to see and listen to many places through you, and it was like I had actually travelled to them." He claimed that many people have found his project useful and that they were looking for 'improved ways to browse cams.' The developer also claimed that the website routinely removed private streams. "I do not know who is owner of each listed camera. The streams are collected from open sources. Each public-open video stream is added to this directory. After that, manual moderation is performed to check if it is not published by mistake," he said. There are at least eight live streams from Hyderabad currently available on the website.
